I looked on a few different parts sites but can't find a short shift for an 88 car. The closest is an 86. Can my car have a short shift installed? Thanks for any advice.

I was wondering the same thing a few months ago since I couldn't find anyone with a short shifter for 87's up (specifically for 87-89's). I recently sent my VIN number and proof of ownership (copy of title) to Porsche Cars North America (along with a check for $35.00) and got a Kardex on my 88 Carrera. I was surprised to find a factory short shifter was installed as an option. If someone says it wasn't, they are wrong. I have it documented. Question is, can you get one through the Porsche dealer in your area? If so, it will probably be expensive. Other than that , I had the same problem you have. Hope the info helps.

Option M243 was a shorter shift lever, consisting of a shorter shift lever and a different leather boot cover. No other parts are different from stock.

Thanks for all the responses. I will find out if I have this option installed. And then if its worth it to add it on.
