Question 3.6 piston mods

Do the stock 3.6L piston and cylinder sets have any room to rework? Can they be cut either to reduce compression or to reduce deck height for wilder cam profiles and supercharger/turbo applications?

Hi Rick:

The 3.6 pistons have "some" room to accomodate different cams but one should always check piston-to-valve clearances with ANY non-stock cam to be sure. This is simply SOP in any high-performance or race engine.

FWIW, most of the 3.6 or 3.8 litre engines that we do here for racing or other high-performance work have custom JE pistons that we tailor for the camshaft profile and CR desired.

Regarding the OEM pistons,.... these really cannot be safely machined enough to reduce the CR to an appropriate value for forced-induction engines. For those applications, I would install a custom JE piston set.

Thanks for the advice. The aftermarket pistons sound like the way to go to avoid any mismatched components.
