Lightbulb New here, best place to purchase "Big Red" 993 gt2 calipers?

Hi Everyone, I am looking for the best place to purchase a set of 993 GT2 (turbo "Big Red") calipers, rotors, and hats.

These are I belive 322mm x32mm.(rotor)

Porsche makes essentially the best brakes in the world, so that is what I am shooting for.

I would perfer to purchase the hats un-drilled, and subsequently have them machines (as I am going to be adapting these brakes to another non-porsche car.)

Also, any recomendations on 'alternative' or better Porsche components?

I don't want to go larger than 17" dia wheels, so the 380mm evo brakes are out (and I belive they're rather cost prohibitive too I want to keep this between ~$500-1k per wheel.

Anyway, I just need to get educated about the porsche aftermarket and oem parts scene a bit (as I now know nothing.)

Thanks!!
Ben.

Ben,

The best price I have found was at Vertex, I replaced my stock calipers with 993TT rotors and calipers on the front, but had to purchase adapter hats and brackets from Wrightwood racing, total cost for the front was $1230. Calipers were $240 each. On the rear I went with 1994 3.6 Turbo calipers and rotors but had to custom machine the calipers, make brackets, and use 930 turbo rotors. The rears were $370 each but I did the machining and made the brackets myself. Also, there's a company in Torrance,Ca called Stop-Tech which makes a Brembo copy/aftermarket brake system for Vipers,Vettes,Porsches and other makes.
Good luck!

Hi Howard, thanks much!

Will call Vertex tommorow, yay!

Next step will be brackets, and other mounting hardware. (which I'll need to get custom made to my specs.)

What are all your opinions on brake fluid in Porsche systems? DOT 3/4, how about DOT 5 Silicone based? (this is a no-no in ABS cars?)

Specific brands? I don't mind spending the money for the proper fluid, I want to put the right stuff in, and am ignorant of the Porsche spefics, whatever they may be

thanks!
Ben.

Bill,

I use ATE Blue brake fluid in my race car
due to the higher boiling point.I've also used Castrol GTX fluid and it's fine too....and much less expensive.
