1984 915 trani conversion to 1985 question
Here is the question, I have a 1984 915 trani serial number in the 74 E XXXXX range. It has the CV flanges that mate with the earlyer style CV axles. I want to convert it over to the CV flanges on a 1985 915 serial number in the 74 G XXXXX range.
I have CV flanges off a G50, 1988, and even though they are pretty close, they are not the same, the lenght from the gear teeth, to where the oil seal mates, (the oil seal is a step up in diameter and forms a lip) is about 6mm further out. This I think will cause the 915 oil seal not to work. In short these are different enough that unless someone has already done it, I'm not going first.
The real question is how hard to it to make this conversion to the new style CV flanges, should I convert or get a new trani. I just bought the train from Partsheaven here in Ca, and I am sure I can swap it out, but they do not have an 1985 915 inhouse, so conversion could be faster.
thanks in advance
Jim
