Seeing all the things folks do to other engines. What upgrades can one do to help increase the performance of a stock '85 3.2 at 207hp?
Thanks.

Reading Bruce Anderson's performance handbook, I get the impression the best bolt-on combo would be a mass air flow system, chip, stainless exhaust (pre '74 style) and a good flowing muffler. I've heard up to 250 hp with that.

I'm sorry I don't have any catalog info close by. I would guess around $3k. But don't quote me on that. They're pretty standard upgrades, so just about any P-supplier would have them. Shop around a little. My only definite recommendation would be to get genuine SSI exchangers instead of a knock-off. Do a search on this site for best recommended muffler.

Good luck!

Hi Gary:

In this order, I would do:

1) A good chip

2) SSI's and good sport muffler (Monty)

3) MAFS (maybe)

4) Suspension

5) Close-ratio gears!!!!

There is a lot to be said for improving the performance of the driver. A $1000 spent on DE will make you faster than $1000 on "upgrades" IMO.
AND it's more fun!

Depending on where you live (CA?) smog laws may be the deciding factor. They are not always rational.
