I got an opprtunity to see a PSE exhaust next to a stock exhaust and I'm extremely disappointed, especially when considering the cost. The actual mufflers are identical. The only difference is a small pipe with a valve that allows a very small amount of exhaust to essentually bypass the muffler. The muffler cases, inlet and outlet tubes are exactly the same. I can't see the PSE making any performance gain, just changing the exhaust sound.

If you aren't using the switch, wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to just go to an exhaust shop, have them cut holes in the intake and exhaust tubes for the mufflers then weld a tube in place? Would this not give you the same sound?

 

Did you guys/gals buy directly from Fabspeed or another store? I'm looking to buy their headers, cats&mufflers for my 997S.

Actually the middle man's cheaper. Vivid Racing was selling Fabspeed mufflers for $850 shipped.

 

I put Fabspeed on my 964. I did a dyno run before and after the conversion. I lost hp with the Fabspeed conversion and went back to what I had (stock primary with cat and secondary bypass).

 

Not any more.... and you might have to wait over 3 weeks to get it like I did.....

If I had to do it again I would go thru Fabspeed direct... Rennlist members get a 15% discount if you ask......

 

I have a full fabspeed system on my car. I believe it added as much as advertised- 15-30hp

 

I also have Fabspeed headers to tips (double configuration - heaterless). Don't know if the system added or detracted from the HP, but they sound great. Mine is a 3.8 though.

 

If you want an aftermarket exhaust, they make the most sense on turbocharged 911s. I would be very wary of claims of large power gains for any of these systems. Weight reduction and sound are the primary advantages. However, there are many documented reports that these modifications can also lose power - tuning backpressure is an art on an already well engineered car.

If you want to save a great deal of weight, go with the titanium exhaust set-up that DCLee put on his GT3 (now sold). I am buying a 997 Turbo, but am waiting to see where the "dust settles" in terms of all of the tuner's claims about quality and power (e.g., FabSpeed, 9ff, AWE, TechArt, etc). I would put most of my trust in TechArt, but they tend to be expensive.

I'm using the Cargraphic headers, 100 sport cats and a Fabspeed Maxflo muffler. I noticed a pretty big gain. But my application is force inducted.

On my 996 TT I added the Fabspeed exhaust (Bought it direct) and the EVO intake. Did the exhaust in week 1, drove hard for that week and then added the evo intake. again drive hard. Final addition were bailey's diverter valves. What I notice now since all of this is:

- Much, much better exhaust note - the car's osund now matches its looks
- Has helped with shifting as the turbo was soo muted before
- Have noticed my boost has gone up by .1 or .2 when I jump on it
- Pulls much harder, faster with more torque

so far - I like it.

as far as the noise goes no complaints from the wife when shes is in it with me.
