G-50
I was writing to ask about a G-50 Transmission. I have a 1975 914-4 that im turning into a 914-6 with a 3.6L. What I was wanting to know is what Transmission should I put in. The 915 or the G-50 Transmission. With both of the Transmissions what conversion should I do to get them to work in the 914.
Thanks,

Both will work, but the G50 is a much more modern design and can handle more torque. The problem is that the G 50 conversion is also much more expensive tto and you have to convert the clutch pedal to accept a clutch master cyclinder. Patrick Motorsports does lots of 914 conversion with trannies so I would call him for more advice at 602-244-0911

Hi:
We just completed a 3.8 Varioram installation into a 914/6.
You can use the G-50, but it must be mounted upside down so it rotates the right way. There is not enough room inside the differential case to flip the R&P.
We used a heavily modified and externally cooled 915 in this 914/6 to simplify the installation, shifting, and clutch actuation.
Another client is doing a V-8 in his 914 and we provided a modified, regeared G-50/50, and he is converting the car to hydraulic clutch actuation. Further, he had to fabricate new mounts as the tranny had to be turned upside down and the trunk floor relieved for that. Renegade did a side-shift conversion, as well. This was NOT an inexpensive conversion.
