How low is too low for Koni's?
I would like to lower the front ride height on the front of a '71 914/6 2.7 conversion which is using 911s front hubs and Koni shocks (orange).
How low can I go before the shock bottoms?
Should I shorten the shock rod?
Thanks
Eddie

Eddie,
When I raced a 914/6 during the 70's, all we had were the double adjustable Koni's. I used to place an o-ring on the top of each shock piston rod, so that it would remain in place when the shock was compressed. That way, I knew how close the shock was to bottoming out. It wasn't very scientific, but it sure allowed the lowest chassis setting without bottoming the shock.
It worked very well on the race course, because I used much harder springs and there were no covers on the shocks to that we could easily see the location of the O-ring. I would run about five laps, come in and check the location of the O-rings. Depending on their location, I could raise or lower the car slightly and do a quick wheel alignment.
This is just an idea that might help you to determine the best ride height.
