Default struts on the cheap

I am looking for ideas on what strut inserts are available for my 73 911 with torsion bars and cut down Boge struts. I would like something double adjustable or at least with compression and rebound damping approx. the same. I am now running adjustable Konis. The adjustments seem to affect the rebound damping a lot more than the compression. I am unable to get what I need with them. They just dont have enough compression damping. The other part of the equation is that I dont want to spend more than $250 each. Any ideas?

Hmmm...

The number of options = the previous number of replies!

Koni single adjustables are only so for rebound anyway IIRC.

You gotta pay if you want to play in the league you're talkin!

You can get Bilsteins and have them rebuilt to whatever specs you want by Bilstein, at roughly $80 each plus shipping (that's just the rebuild cost, not the purchase price). As John mentioned, adjustable as you described costs more than your budget.

Hi:

Cheap adjustable struts/shocks?

Cannot be done,....

Depending on what you are doing, I'd recommend either Moton or JRZ double-adjustable struts and shocks. You'll spend $4K.

These are remote-reserviour, 14-way bump and 15-way rebound adjustable shocks available with steer-bodied struts and alloy-bodied rear shocks. These can be made with custom configured raised and even offset-bored spindles for more negative camber.

These are not cheap but nothing makes as big a difference in the car's handling and ride as these do. You truly get what you pay for. On a track car, these are worth 3-6 seconds a lap over anything else.

FWIW, we are both dealers and a service center for these components.

If you are on a budget I say get some used bilstein inserts for you Boges and get them revalved. They will revalve them the way they think they should be or anyway you want. In Dec. the price was $65 per shock. I heard it went to $75 in the new year. Jack there thinks the 50/50 bump rebound ratio Porsche used on the RSR is bad. We usually get something like 160/210 when we specify a 2200lb porsche with 23 & 31mm sway bars.
