Default Nifty Fire extinguisher mount, uses rear seat belt receptacles

Category: Accessories
Price (no $ sign please): $75
Private or Vendor Listing: Vendor Listing
Part fits (select ONLY those which apply): 996, 997
Location (Region): Canada
Item Condition: Brand New

Sometimes I come across something so unique and clever that I just have to add it to the SpeedMerchants store.

In this instance, it is a fire extinguisher mount that can snap in and out in seconds in any 996/997 with rear seats/belt receptacles.

From our site:

"This clever device mounts INSTANTLY into the rear seat belt receptacles.

High quality, stainless steel bracket INSTANTLY installs the appropriate A,B,C, certified, fire extinguisher, as specified by PCA rules.
The installation is the required 'metal to metal' attachment, thus meeting the specified requirements.

No need to have an unsightly, complicated seat rail attachment.
This nifty installation is INSTANTLY attached or removed in any 996/997"

$75 for bracket alone or $180 for bracket and extinguisher.

Thanks
John

In a pinch, one would have to click and disconnect both sides, with both hands (for speed), correct?

Would this fit a 944/951/968?

Incorrect. To remove cannister, flip up the clip on the band strap (with one hand) that secures the extinguisher to the bracket. The bracket stays put.

Oh, I see that now. Any word if this would fit 944/951/968? I suppose one could cut it, extend it, and recomplete it...

That bracket appears to be specific to 996/997. N.G. for 944, 951, etc. I'd recommend the Brey-Krause front pass seat bracket for your car. Good luck!

Nifty, but...

I take it those seat belt receptacles on the 996/997 pivot on the bolt as they do on my car?

If that is the case, wouldn't the whole bracket with fire extinguisher not bounce up and down to some extent based on the road you are on. Or is there something bolting it down?

I made my own bracket for my 964 (info received from an old Rennlist thread) with a piece of aluminum strap and two BMW male seat belt ends.

It is not bolted down--just attaches to the seat belt ends like the SpeedMerchants design listed above.

I was concerned about the fire extinguisher bouncing around and making noise but have not experienced either.

It stays in place on the track and street. The weight of the fire extinguisher keeps it in place.

Good idea and beats having to machine/fabricate them.

What would concern me is the weight matting the carpet over time.

Don't drive it at high speed or you could get a rock chip too...

You a chaff guard or similar to distribute the weight?

Wow! That really is clever. No use to me in a GT3 (no rear seat belts) but I wish that had been around when I was doing the occasional DE.

Just one thing, I presume the fire extinguisher's actual mount comes with the FE and not with the part that plugs into the seat belts. I would not want (and I don't think some regions will let you have) only one securing strap on your extinguisher. In a headlong accident I suspect that would become one hell of a projectile.
