So I have a 2003 996 Turbo. I love it. It's wicked fast. I knew shortly after I bought it (used) that the clutch was going. Finally, about 2 months ago, it started slipping so bad it was undriveable. Then I started reading Rennlist and all the 996 forums, and everyone said, "If you're going to do a clutch job on a 996 TT, you should upgrade the flywheel to a single mass flywheel - it's 14lbs vs 39lbs. It spools up so much faster. The car will be amazing!!!"

Well, all that may be true: for someone who can drive better than I can. Simply put, I'm just a dude who likes to drive fast. I'm not a racer. I have no idea how to "double clutch". And when I put this SMFW on the car, it did spool up fast, I could hear it and see the tach zoom to redline, but it was so finicky, I couldn't drive it. Simply put - I'm not cool enough for this flywheel. So I had the shop remove it after 23 miles and replace it with a new OEM dual mass flywheel.

Maybe you take your 996 to the track, or maybe you're just better at shifting than I am. But if you're looking for a near perfect Clutchmasters Aluminum Single Mass Flywheel, here's your chance to save some bucks.

This comes with the flywheel gasket, shown in the picture.

This items sells new at Clutchmasters for $1,050.

I just bought an '03 996TT X50 a couple months ago and needed a new clutch flywheel. I went with a GT3RS single mass flywheel and love it. It rattles when engaged at idle, but it's easy to use. I can't imagine spending all that $ in labor to remove it.

Thanks,
