Choosing the correct Race Ramp trailer ramp for your particular application requires consideration of several factors.

1) The approach angle of your car. The standard Race Ramps trailer ramps have incline angles ranging from 4˚ to 8.4˚. The trailer ramps which incorporate the incline sections from two-stage incline RLL-87-2 service ramps have an initial incline of 6.8˚ which transitions to 10.7˚. The trailer ramps using the RLL-89-2 Progressive Incline sections have an approach angle of 4˚ to 8˚. In general, you will want to choose the trailer ramp with the steepest incline that fits under your car. This will minimize the breakover angle by keeping the trailer door or ramps higher off the ground.

2) Transition angle between the supplemental Race Ramps and the trailer door or trailer ramps. In general if the angle of the trailer door or ramps is no more than 50% greater than the incline of the Race Ramps, your car will probably clear the transition angle. Again, the higher the Race Ramp, the lower the transition angle will be.

3) Breakover angle. As your car moves from the trailer ramps to the trailer bed the chassis can scrape the trailer bed if the breakover angle is too steep. The higher the supplemental Race Ramps are, the lower the breakover angle. Cars with low ground clearance and long wheelbases are the most likely to have problems with the breakover angle.

4) Trailer door or ramp thickness. Most of the standard Race Ramps have a 2" deep step for the trailer door or ramp. The RR-TR-7 ramp has a 2.5" step and the RR-TR-8 ramp has a 3" deep step. The custom "RLL" ramps have available trailer ramp adapters with either a 2" or 3" deep step.

The attached drawing provides an overview of the six standard Race Ramps trailer ramps and the two "RLL" trailer ramps. The RLL-89-IS (incline section) with a curved top is a cross between the RR-TR-5 and the RR-TR-7 ramps. It has a 4˚ initial incline with a gradual increase to 8˚. At 6.7" high it's nearly the same height as the RR-TR-7 ramp. The RLL-87-IS is similar to the RR-TR-8XL. The "RLL" ramps can be purchased as service ramps with optional trailer ramps adapters, or they can be purchased as trailer ramps without the "platform" sections used with the service ramps.
