The limited edition book on Porsche's 911R models has been published and is up for sale. Within the first 4 months over 800 copies have been sold.

The book covers the 911R from 1967 as well as the one from 2016. The first 190 pages tell the story of how the first lightweight 911 came to birth, the world record run and in what races the works team used the car back then. The "R" won the Tour de France in 1969 as well as the Tour de Corse with Gérard Larousse at the wheel. A big focus of the book was set on all the engines that the works team fitted into this 1,800 lbs. 911! Basically, the 911R was Porsche's first attempt to homologate a 911 for serious motorsport use. It did not work out as Huschke von Hanstein had planned, but paved the wave for the Carrera RS in 1972/1973...

45 years later, a 991 mule was sitting in Porsche's GT department. It had a manual gearbox mated to the 485 hp GT3 engine. The engineers ran back-to-back tests to figure out whether to go for PDK or manual. Well, we all know, that PDK was faster and became the only option for the 991 GT3. But since the prototype was so much fun to drive, Andreas Preuninger didn't want to scrap it. He told Henry Freude to keep it away from the demolition guys that do the rounds and collect all not-in-use-anymore prototypes and dismantle them. Henry, who knows the premises like his pocket always found a corner, where the 991-GT3-manual-prototype could hide away. This is how the story of the new 911R began... It is told in all detail on the next 190 pages of the book.

Here's a small note from the author: I have been scolded for having brought both cars into the same book... but let me tell you: without the new car, there wouldn't have been a book in the first place. We at T.A.G. Books figured that the 911R is far less known than the Carrera RS (covered in our other book by the way). We are talking about 1,580 cars versus 24 cars. It seemed much too risky to publish a book — given the price tag for such a detailed work — for an audience of only 24 collectors plus a couple of tribute car owners.

The book can be ordered from the US through our webshop. We ship from Germany to USA with the help of UPS. It takes 3-4 working days for UPS and 1-3 days for us to prepare shipment.
