When to pay for a custom order Panamera?
I'm taking delivery of my Panamera 4s at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta on August 4th.
I'm paying cash and already put down a 10k deposit. I got a call from my dealer saying they want me to come in to sign paperwork and give them the full remaining amount in a cashier's check.
Is that normal procedure to pay a month in advance on a custom delivery? What have other people's experiences been?

wait, what? No. You should only fully pay till you can inspect the car and verify its what you ordered. Your ability to fight them goes down massively once you give them all the money and sign the paperwork. The Ford Dealer rushed the paperwork on my F150 because they blew the order and missed an option I wrote down. So it went from a $1000 screwup on them to a $1000 screwup on me.
More to the point, I've taken home cars with just the paperwork signed, no full payment. My GT350 was finished w dealer prep outside of banking hours on a Sat. They let me drive off in it and come back monday morning with a check. I've never seen paperwork that didn't include "if somehow you don't pay us off by day X we can secure a loan for you on the car at X rate" just to cover themselves, even with bank check handed over the same day.

Apparently the car is arriving in the US next week, way ahead of schedule and the dealer is being invoiced for the car now and thus they want me to pay. At least thats what the official line is.

are you sure it's considered a 2018? My understanding was that the factory closed in July to convert over to the 2018 tooling, so anything shipped prior to that would be considered a 2017. Not sure if that matters, but may want to check if it does.

It says 2018 on my order sheet so it better be when the car arrives.

It sounds like they're using the same procedure that they use for European delivery. Pay a few weeks ahead of time. I suspect that the delivery center doesn't get involved in the finances when you're there to pick up the car, hence you have to pay in advance.

A $10k custom order deposit is already outrageous. I've never paid more than $2.5k. Paying for a car before you actually own it is ridiculous. Pay when you pick it up and after you have checked that it is to your specification.

It varies from one dealer to another. Here in the UK, I paid £5k deposit and the balance on collection. It was the same with my Macan, but with just a £3k deposit on that. I think the GT cars might require a £10k deposit.

I love how everyone here is posting that you should pay when you get the car. That's wrong information, and it's obvious they have never taken delivery at the PEC. Why post if you do not know what you're talking about?
PEC delivery requires you to purchase the car before you pick it up. Porsche (PEC) will not deliver the car to you without you having proof of purchasing it from your dealer in advance. They charge the dealer (the invoice they mentioned) and then you pay the dealer. Then you get your temporary tag and take that and purchase paperwork to the PEC. Some of you people are so paranoid of dealerships it's ridiculous. You'd think you're living in a horror film where they are chasing after you.

Quite a lot of aggression here...
I collect my new car tomorrow and I will send funds tomorrow. They will obviously not hand over the car until they are in cleared funds, the point is you do not pay until the day of, or before, completion. I want interest on my cash/to save interest on finance until the last minute!
This is the case for my previous 911 also.
