Winter tire size - how tall can I go?
I'll be switching over from the 996 forum as soon as I sell it and spending more time over here getting to know my new 2010 Panamera Turbo. I picked it up from another Rennlister (thanks awd) and drove it from OKC to Denver yesterday and just love it. It came with 2 sets of wheels and I'll need a set of dedicated snow tires for winter.
I like to go as narrow and as tall as possible for improved traction on snowy roads - what size tire will fit my nice 19" Panamera wheels?
Thanks!

Stock turbo wheels are:
9 x 19" - 60 mm
10 x 19" - 61 mm
Front: 255/45-19
Rear: 285/40-19
The sidewall is already pretty thick on a Panamera. Stock winter tires are Michelin Pilot ALPIN PA4 N-SPEC in the same sizes as summers.
Running slightly smaller tires might be possible but you're going to find it's very difficult to keep the same circumference as stock wheels. Most cars with AWD can tolerate a 3-4% change in circumference. Anything more can lead to mechanical issue's.

You could run 245/45/19 front and 275/40/19 rear, but tire choices seem much more limited. Anything smaller wouldn't fit on the rim. It might be physically possible to fit one but wouldn't be optimal.
Another possibility is buying two extra front wheels to put in the back. The wheel might look a little tucked in or you can use a spacer to fix that. That would allow you to run a square 245 setup.

Thanks for the input but my choices seemed very limited. I ended up going w/ stock 19" size and the Michelin Pilot Alpin tires that appear to be designed for this car. I'll report back next winter how well they run in snow and ice as this car will see a lot of highway during the winter months.
