Default Front End Clunk normal?

When I back up with my wheels turned I get one firm "clunk" in what seems like the right front wheel/suspension area. This is a 2015 P4. My 2013 also did this so I assume it is standard although its not printed on the window sticker.

Do your cars do this?

I could be wrong, but I just thought it was the tire slipping on the pavement - I can sort of feel it through the steering wheel. I never gave it much thought. This only happens with my summer tires - doesn't happen with winters.

Not seeing this on my 15 Pana 4... Are you waiting for the trans to engage in reverse before hitting gas pedal? Mine has a seemingly long period to engage when put into reverse. Maybe only a split second but long enough for me to wait a second before gassing it. Was told it s normal process for the PDK. Next time you put it in reverse, wait till you feel it bump in before taking your foot off the brake... Let us know.
Doesn t sound like he is describing the tire scrub... which should happen forward also... ??

I am in motion, backing or forward with the wheels turned when it "thunks". Seems to be temperature related. Happens when you first use the car after sitting overnight or in colder temps a few hours. This morning it was high 30 degrees and it thunked and one wheel hopped. Once this happens onceit does not occur again.

Is wheel scrub the same as wheel slip? If so I doubt that is what is occurring here. My theory is that some bushing is shrinking when it cools probably becoming a bit egg shaped until its first rotation. The warmer the temps the less apparent its noise but still noticeable. Now with temps in the 30's it is a jolting clunk for that first revolution. I had a 996R cup built in '01 or 2 that did the same thing. They had a service bulletin to replace all cup car lower A arms in those years.

As above, it is very probably cold tire scrub if you have summer tires that harden as temperature falls. They should not be used at 40 degrees of less.

Default Clunking and scrubbing of front tire in sharp turn

I am having the same trouble with my 2014 Cayman S. When I took it in for service they said it was normal. The front wheels can't keep up with the back wheels because of the short wheel base. Just poor design. I was loaned a 2016 Boxter while they were working on my car and it does not do the scrubbing like mine. Maybe they fixed the problem.

Default Poor engineering of Cayman front end steering

I have had my 2014 Cayman S for six months and I think it is **** poor engineering the way the front wheel have to scrub along in a short turn to catch up with the rear. They say it is because the wheel base is so short. It is disappointing to me that they would put out a car with such an aggravating mistake. Porsche should be ashamed.
