ipod mounting cable did not come with car

If you ONLY have a USB plug in the compartment, your iPod cable (the one that came with your iPod) is all you need. I just took delivery on my 4S Friday and found that Porsche has changed the configuration so that no special cable is required.
The normal iPod cable (USB on one end, iPod on the other) works perfectly including charging.

I have an early generation Ipod and its USB plug does not fit into the plug in the Panamera I just got. I think that early Ipods are incompatible but I am still trying to get that confirmed. My car did not come with a cable, but the owner's manual references the "supplied cable" when it describes connecting the ipod. My dealer is ordering me a cable, which may, or may not work with my ipod. I am getting ready to get a new ipod and put this situation to rest.

The cord is a Tequipment option. Code FV21234 in vinyl, FL21234 in leather, FC21234 in carbon fiber and FA21234 for alcantra finish. Price is $377.00 for vinyl and $434 for other finishes. Please supply color code when ordering leather or vinyl.
Or you can get one at Best Buy for $16.95.

OK...here is what dealer salesman informed me about cable. The Pprsche cable is a not capable of preventing the ipod from discharging while car is off and after ipod battery runs out it can then drain the car battery as well...apparently, switching out of ipod as a media source does not turn the ipod itself off. I don't understand then if another wire is used, will the same discharge occur?

My car was built 3/8/10.
Works perfectly with my touch (using the regular apple USB cable) and USB flash drive. I took one of the Panamera key shaped USB drives, dumped music on it and keep it in the car. My detailer thought it was the key yesterday. Funny watching him press it and nothing happening.

Got a new Ipod Nano as my first generation Ipod Classic is not compatible with the Panamera. Transfered my music to the new Nano, hooked it up, and it works perfectly with full control of all functions via the PCM interface of the car. Another cool thing is that when you first hook the ipod up, a Porsche crest appears in the ipod's screen....very nice touch.

My March production P4s came with 2 connections in the storage area. A usb and an ipod post. There was also an ipod cable that had 2 connections on one end (usb and ipod) and the ipod connector on the other end.

Just picked up my P4S yesterday and read this post last night. Thought the quick easy way was to run out and buy a 4gb usb stick for 15 dollars. Came across this little gem that is foldable that stays out of the way!
In my ex-997.1. I just burned a cd with mp3s and used that most of the time!

tkids, I know exactly how you feel! On my 997 TT I had to burn an MP3 CD, now I just upload to my wife's (now mine by hijack) iPod nano!
Why would one use a USB over an iPod or the other way round?
Any advantages over using an iPod over a USB?
