There will always be a Porsche
My Panamera 4s will be built next month and delivered in late March or Early April. Meanwhile, I am driving a Prius courtesy of Hertz. What a horrible car. Heavy, slow, numb, and all the while self-congratulatory with that little image of the battery and engine shuttling power around between the driveline and battery. It tells you continuously what your mileage is and all the time all I could think of was when would my trip be over.
Thank heavens for Porsches, if they didn't exist, we would have to invent them.

I rented a Mustang GT convertible while I was in Hawaii few months ago, supposed to be one of the higher end model in their fleets. I was surprised by the poor quality material and finish of the interior. I was surprised that people actually will pay quite a bit of money to get it. Same money can easily get a pre-owned 996.
Yeah, thank heavens for Porsches.

Excellent point about those batteries. They are very toxic to make and no one knows where they will be deposited when they are used up, a major environmental impact that the enivrowackos don't talk about. Hybrids are a scam as far as being "green" is concerned If you want to get better mileage, get a diesel....If you want a car that's about driving, get a Porsche.

Ummm, Toyota recycles the Prius battery, just like the millions of lead acid batteries regular cars use. They even pay for you to take in the battery for recycling. So what other bogus misconceptions would you like debunked?
As for the Prius, yea it drives like crap compared to a Porsche, but that's because its made to get high mpg, which it does, since its the most fuel efficient car you can buy in the USA. A high performance car, just in a different performance category.

checked up some more and texas is right based on stated comments
..................When the battery eventually dies out on you, it is removed at an authorized Prius service center. Toyota has appointed authorized waste management companies in each country where the car is sold, which are responsible for transporting the batteries to one of three European Final Treatment Companies (FTCs): SNAP, Accurec and Umicore.
"The recovery process begins with the removal of the battery’s outer casing, which itself can be re-used in steel making processes. All the wires and electronic parts are sent to a specialist recovery company, while the power cells themselves are recycled using an induction-based vacuum thermal system," the company said..............................

prius is still BS - driving styles are more important than the car - drive throughs for food- running your car when going into a store as too lazy to turn off - commuting with only 1 person - speeding - driving short distances stop and go - improperly inflated tires - not keeping car properly tuned - - list goes on and correcting those doesn't require plugging into a primarliy coal fired electricity grid

+1 to Cpa4s, saving energy is just not about what you drive is how you drive it.
It always cracks me up when a PRIUS passes me at 70+ mph...I usually wave at them meaning:
"Go Stupid...Go".
I wish more will start thinking instead of following trends and marketing gimmicks...aren't those hybrids best in a stop'n go traffic anyway?

You are right, how you drive is important, that's how Prius hyper-milers can get almost 80-90 mpg, but then the typical Prius hater will complain about how slow those Prius drivers drive. So basically the Prius haters, will complain about Prius drivers going faster than them, Prius divers going slower than them, Prius drivers in general. Can't win.
But the Prius a pretty high tech car, for example, it beats any Porsche in drag coefficient. Not bad for a $25K car.

Well, I learned a few things, thanks to texas911. I drove the Prius over 600 miles this week, mostly highway. I got about 45mpg on the highway going between 75 and 85 mph, pretty impressive. The car is terrible dynamically, but it felt solid and safe and was comfortable and composed on the highway. It is a transportation tool, it inspires no passion in me (but might in people who find the technology and cleverness compelling). The technologies Porsche deploys result in products that do inspire passion in me.
I have come around, I could see an argument for the Prius and can understand why so many like them. Its just not for me, not even close.

The .cd on the Prius is contentious. In their own wind tunnel they are claiming .25 or .26 while in the Chevy Volt, Chysler, and Ford tunnels, they are showing .30. The Carrera of today (997) clocks in at .28; .29 for the S and cabs. (The Volt has a .28 claim.)
