Default Night vision camera replacement

Hi all,

My night vision camera lens was busted and ultimately I think water fried it altogether. I replaced the camera over the weekend and connected a PIWIS 3 to code the new one. It was successfully coded. There were three faults and I was able to clear all but one. I know the camera will need to be calibrated but I don’t think that is related to the fault I’m seeing. Does this mean the actual module itself needs to be replaced as well? If so does anyone know where the actual module is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Kevwise1. I had a similar situation. Broken glass on the FLIR camera for my 2018 971 when I bought it from the dealership. They shipped me a replacement camera and I said I'd install it. My memory of the incident before I replaced the camera was that I had codes for the "heating" element of the module and the camera module itself, but I didn't see anything about the controller. If I saw "controller," I would have asked the dealership to pay for that part as well. I would log into PCSS and look for `WM, 908155 Replacing infrared camera control unit` and `WM, 908119 Removing and installing infrared camera control unit.` It's under the left footwell outlet vent under the dashboard. GLHF!

And yes you'll need to pay for a ADAS calibration once you're done. Mine was $1000 at an indie alignment shop.

Thanks for all the details. I don’t have PCSS access so looks like I’ll need to knock that out first.

Sure! Getting PCSS access is a great investment for anyone working on their modern Porsche. I would say, though, that having reviewed the docs I referenced, that you don't need much more information than what I've provided to do the service. Here's some of the details I left out:
  • Switch off ignition and keep transmitter key outside of the transmission range (at least 5 m).
  • Switch off electrical loads before disconnecting or removing them.
  • Do not remove new part from ESD (electrostatic discharge) protective packaging until shortly before
installation and only at the installation position.
  • Do not touch electric pins and plug contacts.
The steps before this include removing and installing the footwell light, and removing the cover under the dashboard (the driver's side).
