Default Easy and quick mod

Posting because I can't think thelis silly mod brings me so much satisfaction.

My old 12 year old key was scratched and dirty and had a flimsy rubber resistance feeling to it. I went on Amazon and found the shell color matched very closely to the color of the car. I also found a rubber part replacement. Taking the key apart was pretty simple and gave me the opportunity to clean all the crevices. The end result is below.

Equally easy for the newer keys too! I did something similar for mine, swapped the black plastic for bourdeaux red leather to match my interior

Its an OEM part that I ordered from Suncoast Parts. Sadly very expensive compared to the Amazon alternatives but I couldn't find any non-OEM options for the leather trim.

Every time I take the remote apart to put on a new shell and rubber center, the rubber pad never seats. Then it falls out a week later. My fix was to roll black hockey tape on the bottom of the remote and move on 🤣 Even my new fob after a year, fell apart, the bottom battery kept popping out when one of the key side fasteners gets weak and will not hold. I think you can buy an entire empty shell and transfer the remote board over when it gets beaten to not need fob reprogramming which is like $800 for 2 remotes.

Yes the rubber was a pain to put on, but I figured out that taking it apart completely and fitting the rubber first, the top shell second and just carefully seating it worked. For now at least.
