Default rear control issues (will a used one work?)

Hey folks: 2012 Pani Turbo. I was out of town for a week and we had MONSOON rains. Water got in the battery box: rear BCM sat in water: FUBAR

- I know on 987 you can use a used rear control module but it has to match the one coming out...same for 970's?
- Meaning, if I find the same part number, will it work or who knows...maybe yes, maybe no

- If I need a reman/rebuild does anyone know a place that does them?

I've not done this, but suspect the module needs to be coded to the car w/PIWIS.

Nope! A simple replacement can be put in and it'll work. Had the exact same rain problem, and I'm still dealing with it.

Just got a used BCM from a 2012 Panamera S (I have a 2011 Panamera S) and it worked perfectly, no issues. Extremely overpriced though compared to prices on ebay, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Doesn't need PIWIS, went to a normal garage since I needed the car urgently.

FYI, I doubt you can rebuild. The thing is probably fried. We opened up ours and found it rusted and whatnot.
BE SURE TO CHECK ALL WIRES, expect to have some electrical leaks from rust, and take a look at the sound system, very likely something got screwed in there. Do not turn on the car, simply take it to a mechanic you TRUST and make sure he sprays all the wires down and cleans them, I unfortunately went to an absolute idiot and he couldn't properly clean the car.

If you left the spoiler open, prepare to have a spoiler fault, as the BCM ties into that as well, as well as the chassis, and so many other modules in the car.
You're gonna have a whole lot of electrical gremlins. Me personally, I have some rusted wires I have to deal with soon since I'm having some electrical leaks. My alarm system went crazy but I found a solution, fixed up the spoiler and some other issues. It's all really minor to be honest, but it differs case by case.

@vice_toned thanks for the info. Lucky for me I do most of my own work and am probably better than most shops in my area, even the dealer --- anyway, so I got everything cleaned, dried and back installed and all that does not work is the spoiler and the OPENING of the rear hatch but it does open and close. I know it could have been much worse

So you just installed a used module from another 970? Do you know if the matched the part number exactly? When you say you are still dealing with the issues, are you dealing with water getting into the battery box area, or dealing with fall out from the initial failure?

Excellent, keep it that way. Better than most shops as you said. After my experience, I really don't trust anyone at where I live.
Please make sure the car and carpets dry for at least 3 DAYS. Yes. 3 days. That is the safest you can go.

The Spoiler
Does the spoiler extend by itself when you turn on the car? Or when you move? Or when you go at a certain speed?
It will obviously malfunction since the BCM's fried. Once you get a new BCM, let me know.

My case for the spoiler
During my time, after I connected a new BCM, the spoiler used to extend itself as soon as I turned on the car, then it would close by itself, and I would have no control over it.

What I did was simply turn the car on, wait for the spoiler to extend, turn the car off as soon as its fully extended, and then lock it, then turn the car on and boom, I have spoiler control back.

Rear Hatch
Rear hatch is most likely just a programming issue, try opening it, hold the closing button at the max height, basically the same procedure for defining at which height the hatch will open, then close it. You might have to close it manually, depending on your case.

The Module
Yes, I installed a used module from another 970 S. I have a Panamera S.
By the issues I'm dealing with, I mean the long-term effects of even a bit of water getting into the car. I really didn't have that much issues. My only issues right now is the sound system, front-right headlight (probably unrelated, since it worked fine even during the floods), and the driver seat.. but somehow the passenger seat still works, so I suspect the imbecile of a mechanic I went to forgot to connect a bunch of stuff. Other than that, everything's fine. Oh yeah, my subwoofer short circuited I believe, it's fully fried, so I have to get a replacement, but I'm trying to find something after-market because I don't really care about the sound quality. if you have any knowledge regarding the sound system please be sure to let me know, since I have an aftermarket screen w/ carplay and android auto installed.

I sent you pictures in PM of the module I got.
