Spoiler Failure - Advice Needed
Recap of the issue - about a month ago when I hit 95km/h I got an error on the dashboard to say I had a spoiler failure. I tried the basic steps such as clearing out the drainage holes, holding the spoiler button for 20secs, some gentle force on the spoiler etc but nothing has got it going.
This morning I’ve taken the spoiler off (quite a simple job I may add) and the pictures show moderate crap under and around the spoiler mechanism but nothing too bad.
After giving it all a clean up, I refitted the spoiler lightly with 2 bolts and plugged it back and…….and it still doesn’t work (I guess I was naive if I thought it would just begin working again)!
So do you guys have any tips on what I could check next? Could it still be jammed or could we be looking at a fried motor? If the latter, can that be repaired or am I looking at a replacement?
The motor itself looks dry but does show some signs of corrosion. I noticed I can buy a new motor relatively cheaply but checking what should I check next?
Thanks

I’d be looking at the mechanism at the ends of the drive rods . That’s what makes it move up and down , likely to be filled with crap/rust etc . Mine has packed up for the 3rd time so I’ve bought a 2nd hand unit which I’m hoping works .

Actually since I posted I’m nearly in a position where it’s working again.
There was one side which was in a bad state. Not just the gears but the entire rod.
After some perseverance I’ve got it moving again but it’s far from perfect (notchy and stiff). However when I tested it in the car it will now lower and raise slowly with some noise.
I’m going to continue freeing it off and will apply some grease tomorrow to see if I can get it in a good shape.
Thanks

I'm guessing the side with the rusty worm gear is the hard to turn one. If you cant dissemble it, try cleaning it as best you can with a small wire brush and some kind of lubricant. I would do the same to the threaded rods as well. You will eventually burn the motor out if you just leave it to unstick itself. Unfortunately, I am not sure Porsche considers the spoiler serviceable. I think they just replace the whole thing.

After a lot of perseverance I managed to get the gear moving…..initially with pliers then eventually by hand.
Putting it back on the car and working it seemed to help.
This morning I took the spoiler off again and applied some lithium grease and worked it in. Reattached to the car and……success. The full range of movement is back, smooth and without noise.
I’m going to run it for a few days then reapply some more grease before re-sealing it all and hopefully the job is a good one.
The only thing I don’t think is 100% is it doesn’t seem to fit perfectly flush when it’s in the closed position. I remember it being perfect but I feel like it’s protruding a couple of mm. I’ll check once I’ve got all the bolts back in (currently only using a couple). Either way, I’m made up I’ve managed to revive this!
