Default Oil leak out of small hole one the block.

I have a 2017 Porsche Panamera base with the 3.0 V6 single turbo. I have tracked down a small oil leak coming from the passenger side of the engine block towards the back of the motor just under the motor mount. This small hole has oil coming out of it slowly. See the pictures for reference. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Image is looking from the passenger front wheel towards the motor

I wonder if that is a hole Audi intentionally used to drain fluid buildup in the turbo hot V area. If the turbo's oil seal starts weeping or an oil supply or drain line starts leaking, you don't want the V to fill up with oil.

Engine oil cooler is also in there.

How many miles and what maintenance have you had done to it ?

What is the oil consumption like?

Default Info

I was hoping it wasn’t something like a rear main seal leak indicator.

the car has 63,000 miles on it and all maintenance has been done by Porsche Atlanta.

I purchased the car at 60,700 miles and haven’t noticed any oil consumption. I did my own oil change and put 8.5L of oil in and noticed the dash display oil level to be right up there with the Max fill line.

Don't know if you have a borescope camera that can be inserted there to get a better view, but a possibility ?

An oil cooler and oil filter housing are adjacent to the vee. If the hole is a weep hole, and if something is leaking oil into the vee, the oil cooler and oil filter housing would be candidates, in addition to turbo oil lines.

Also found this post on an EA839 from VAGFAN (also posts on this site). Turned out to be the oil cooler.

So I checked the valley below the turbo by the oil cooler and by the oil filter housing. It looks closer to the oil filter housing and the oil is at a higher elevation then the oil cooler O-rings. Does anyone think I need to replace the oil filter housing and see if that fixes the issue?

You need a definitive diagnosis before replacing parts.

I would buy, rent or borrow an endoscope and insert it into the vee to see the precise leak source.

You sure have eliminated the rear main seal.

Get a scope, and have a simple inspection mirror handy too. It could be the oil filter o-ring, or a sloppy oil filter change by someone (not you) who thought the engine could be refilled through the oil filter port. I would sop up all the oil with a shop rag and then run it at idle and wait for it to show itself. Might need to spray down some small parts with safe degreaser spray (safe for plastics) before you can catch it in the act.

I have this scope, but wish the extension chord was about half as long. Detail and illumination is good though. I use it to bore scope the cylinders on my 997. Its brighter had has better resolution than my old one.

Yeah I have this same leak on my 3.0 v6. I noticed it during my spark plug change. It seems like it’s coming from the oil cooler.

Default Problem solved

Just want to thank everyone for the help and pointing me in the right direction. Cause of leak was an oil filter housing.

If anyone wants to know you can replace it without taking any major parts out just the turbo cooling lines ( oil and water). Took me about 4 hours to replace.

Nicely done! That feeling of repairing a broken car is uniquely satisfying.

Just replaced this on my 2017 Panamera 4
3.0 turbo as well. I appreciate your thread as it looked like a rear main seal at first, but it does indeed fill up the valley and run out that little weep hole down the passenger rear of the engine. Cleaned and degreased and it’s been dry since. Make sure you get the pcv/breather pipe recall done as this lets boost enter the crankcase, causing damage to all engine seals. You will know you have the problem if your oil cap seems to be blowing oil out of it after driving for a couple days. Hope this helps. -Part was about $150, I removed Turbo inlet pipe, Turbo oil feed line, loosened drivers side of intake manifold, and removed purge valve pipe to turbo. A Ball end torx T30 really helps. Took a few hours including cleaning.
