Default 2018 4-e vs. 2018 Turbo exec

Hi folks,

First post here - am looking to get my first Porsche. I have found these 2 cars at roughly the same price - both CPO. Which one would you pick? I know comparing these is a bit like apples and oranges.

Car 1: 2018 Panamera e-hybrid - 18K miles - original MSRP - 120K
Car2: 2018 Turbo executive - 66k Miles, original MSRP - 195K

I drive roughly 4-5K/year, and would like to keep the car for about 5 years. I would love to go for the Turbo, but am worried about the depreciation and resale on a car that would be about 90K miles when I want to get the next car. I would probably get the extended warranty on both cars, but the Turbo is likely to have more stuff break, and more consumables.

Thanks!

Turbo all day +1. I have not observed the Turbos being more problematic than the V6 cars based on posts on this board.

When I was in the market I was advised by some Porsche dealer mechanics to avoid the e-hybrid. That said, many on this board have them without issues.

Thanks for the replies. No worries about the 66K miles on the Turbo, and the potential 90+K miles at resale?

I think if the 66K car was cheap enough you can offset the maintenance/ownership cost. My guess is at 90K and a few more years it will not be worth near as much as lower mileage cars. That is the case for all Panamera's though, not just a Turbo. The Turbo will always command a higher price, but at 10 years old and 90K miles I would say you are in the $40-50K range for resale, but who knows what the market will do. Maybe it will skyrocket b/c demand for non-electric cars will be out of this world by then. No idea.

Would help if you posted the asking prices. Currently early 971 Turbo STs with lower mileage seem to be at $110-130K.

I see the turbo executive listed for 85K. And the e-hybrid listed for 75K. The turbo has been sitting on the lot for a while, so I am hoping I can negotiate both down to the low 70's. May be too optimistic.

I feel like if you could get it for $70-75K, drive it for 30K miles and 4-5 years, and sell it for $55-65K you'd be in the zone of comparable for a car like this (Panamera, AMG wagon, etc).

Executive could help or hurt, depends on the buyer.

Another $10k+ off the car might be impossible, but go for the Turbo anyway. As previously mentioned, there's been no widespread reports of unreliability in 971s, but figure most are still under warranty and people really only report problems when it's coming out of their pocket. I'd factor in the cost of a good extended warranty before purchasing - it looks like the car has 1 year of CPO left. Also get a good PPI.

If resale is a big worry, I wouldn't pick a Panamera in general. But I'd also say not to worry about resale value. Enjoy the car, they're great!

(Not trying to poach your car, but there's not a lot of high mileage turbo executives for sale at the moment. It was easy to find lol)

Thanks Av1ator,

Btw - where do you see that there is only 1 year left on the CPO? I thought that any CPO runs for 2 years from when I buy? Do you think another 10K off is impossible based on current prices/what dealers are willing to negotiate?

Click the history section on the car page on the dealer website and the carfax will pop-up. Looks like the CPO was issued 2/28/2022. I guess reading "Limited Warranty: 24 Month/Unlimited Mile beginning after new car warranty expires or from certified purchase date", would make me believe it starts the day you purchase the car. But the ~800 miles put on the car since then would make me skeptical. Best contact PCNA to verify the expiration date.

So it'll depend what the dealer got it for, which is unfortunately hard to find. But they do have a bottom from which they make absolutely nothing or at cost. [From Cargurus] The price has went down $21k since December, which is a lot and it may already be a loser they want to get rid of. But to think they'd take a further $10k bath on it is hard to believe. You got nothing to lose with trying though - we're rooting for you.

Hey @bchan here is some extended warranty information for both vehicles you are considering. Thanks for the warranty info. Would this take effect after the CPO? So if the CPO runs from 2023 to 2025, would the 36 month Fidelity for example run from 2025 to 2029 then?

Both coverage would start at the purchase of the policy, the Fidelity pricing is good until the vehicle has over 25k miles or the end of the year before pricing increases or adjusts. There is potential savings of thousands if you were to purchase the same post CPO overage while the vehicle has less than 25k miles vs if you were to wait when the vehicle had higher milage awards the end of your CPO coverage.

Update: As expected, the dealer for the Turbo did not take the low-mid 70's offer. Also, drove the e-hybrid and the version with the base interior is simply not nice enough for a 100k+ car. Back to the search.
