Coolant leak found and fixed - semi cross post - apologiess
So the low coolant alarm went off in my wifes Pana S and when I opened the hood I see evidence that somehing is leaking. Anyone else seen this? The dealer is the last palce I am going to take it after I had to teach them how how to fix the AC, so any help is appreciated. Even comidic remarks are welcomed.
So was able to replicate the leak by filling up the coolant and running the car. It stayed solid at 200 and the temps rose and fell indication the therostat was opening and the waterpump was moving coolant. So I decided to get on it a little and the temps started rising. Popped the hood and here is what I found. It was actually shooting out small spurts into the front sie of the engine. A scope is actually a really good idea and I even have one. More to come. BTW this is our AZ car so very hot and dry but it does not look like the front hoses are going bad, who knows whats under there thought. Thoughts?
OK all the Pana is fixed. Had to take the intake off and found the line not just leaking but separated. It was easy to find BTW. The failing part was the plastic vent tube. OEM COOLANT VENT LINE Part # 948 106 026 22
Here is what I found
Seperated and spitting.
It was part #25 in the assembly and don't forget #26 in the PET diagram. My part came with the o-rings so I do no have the part number for them.
Hope this is detailed enough - PM me if you need any help. Don't forget intake manifold gaskets ELRING KLINGER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS
Part # 948 110 146 01 and coolant ZEREX G40 COOLANT, 2 GALLONS/2 GALLONS DISTILLED
Thanks so much! Extremely helpful since I’m currently working on this project. Really appreciate the advice of replacing the intake manifold gaskets too since I’m trying to figure out what else I need to replace while I’m in here with the intake manifold removed. First major project, so triple checking everything and making sure I cover my bases going in!
Thanks. Sounds similar to MB, with deterioration/disintegration of underhood plastic pipes and tubes at higher ages and mileage. MB M278/M157 engines are the example.
