Default PDLS+ or PDLS ?

Are headlamps 1 and 2 PDLS+? In another topic I got the answer that number 1 is PDLS+. I don't want to make a mess in the PIWIS topic and I created a new topic.

I have headlamps number 2. In the PR codes I have the following notation

8IS LED headlights incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+)

i want to activate Matrix beam so we can say full function of PDLS+ by PIWIS but when 2nd lamp is PDLS it is impossible

Hello,
You don't have PDLS+.
Here is an extract of the Porsche detailed catalog (translated from french). I hope it helps.

Picture 2
8IS LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)

– Headlights with low beam, high beam, auxiliary high beam and 4-point daytime running lights in LED technology
– Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) with dynamic headlamp range control, static and dynamic cornering beam control and speed-dependent dipped beam control
– Headlight washers

Picture 1
8IU Matrix LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)

LED headlights with matrix technology (84 pixels):
– Camera detection of vehicles arriving in the opposite direction or driving in the same laneand targeted masking of segments of the permanent main beam cone
– Masking by segments of reflective road signs to avoid glare-driver
– In order to optimize the guidance of the gaze, vehicles coming in the wrong direction are not only-ment selectively masked, but the area to the right of the less illuminated area is more illuminated to better direct the driver's gaze
– Headlight washers
With Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and (PLUS):
– Electronically controlled cornering beam control
– Intersection lighting based on navigation data for better illumination of the surroundings of intersections
– 4-point visual signature, even for dipped headlights

I have PDLS and it's number 2

does anyone know if you get the four point lights at night with PDLS+? Without matrix lights that's the only reason to get it IMO. My headlights at night don't look remarkable and lose the signature Porsche 4 point look. Daytime running lights look great and you can't tell the difference really then or with the car off

Super helpful. Thank you!

makes me feel a bit better as I don't think the four point will be easily distinguishable at night under direct light given the brightness

Does anyone have any experience with upgrading to PDLS+ from PDLS? Is it possible and worth it?
From time to time PDLS+ is not an option (when building the car) due to chip shortage but I see it listed on Tequipment website.

If I have just the PDLS lights, can I at least activate the high beam assist or does it require the actual PDLS+ matrix LED lights?

FYI. As I understand it in the USA (for now) the matrix headlights will not operating mixing high beam and low beam. However, if DOT gets off their butts and approves it, the dealer can turn the feature on if you get that option. I posted a NY times article in the Panamera waiting room thread. My dealer has confirmed this. May be possible they get approved this year or next. Insane we are 10 years behind Europe. I am ordering my 4s with them matrix headlights.

D.O.T. passed approval last year. We are waiting for Porsche to implement activation on previously delivered vehicles.

An article titled "Bright Idea" published in the May 2022 issue of "Car and Driver" states, "NHTSA regulations require field testing of the headlights as installed in vehicles, unlike the European rules, which allow component testing. So existing adaptive headlights, which automakers can theoretically enable through software changes, will remain dormant until they pass the new tests. No one knows how long that will take, but Eckstein stays Lucid wants to be the first to deploy the technology and has over-the-air updates ready. Of course Audi and others have similar ideas. Our guess is that the first of these new lights will go active in the U.S. between early summer and the end of the year."

Unfortunately that frame has passed and still nothing from Porsche. Looks like they may never offer activation for those of us who paid for and took delivery with Matrix Headlights disabled.

My understanding is Biden signed the bill including the ability to have the technology approved but DOT still has not approved. Do you have confirmation of DOT approval? That would be great.

Yes, but it's actually the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, and not the D.O.T. that is the governing body:

Mootz, thanks for that info. Seems like there is more to do on the part of manufacturers and whether the matrix headlights on my forthcoming 4S will be able to meet the US standard:
What's good enough for Europe and Canada seems to not be a plug and play for USA.

Based on articles linked below, would seem current 2023 Panamera orders won't have these "new" LED matrix headlights. I expect these would meet the new USA standard. No mention of it in articles.

I posed the question to my dealer as to where Porsche is on getting approval for the adaptive matrix headlights. They are asking Porsche corporate. Will post if anything definitive comes from it.
