Panamera Turbo intake manifold exploded
My 2013 Panamera Turbo exploded when I turned the ignition after pumping gas. It sounded like an explosion and even damaged my hood. Does anyone know why this may have happened? I'm being told it's due to a failed tank purge valve, but what is more concerning, is what ignited the fuel vapors in the intake manifold. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it should have not come from the spark plug because the intake valves should be closed before spark ignition. In addition, could anyone identify the part number for the circled part on the backside of the intake in the illustration? I'm thinking it's some type of check valve. Thanks for everyones input in advance.

Thanks for the identification of the part! I think the spark may have come from the electric heater on the front of the intake manifold that connects to the PCV hose. I have not checked the heater yet to see if has an exposed element or overheated yet. The car is currently at body shop getting the hood fixed. I got most of my parts ordered today and hope to have everything when the body shop completes their work.
Please post pics and keep me posted on what you find.

Look at the Cayenne forms as this is becoming a common issue on older gens and you're correct, it is because of the purge valve.

Filling the fuel tank allows the fumes to go into the engine intake and the valve to release those fumes stays closed so with the turn of your key, ignition spark and boom! Read about it in the Cayenne threads.

I briefly looked in the Cayenne threads and I could not find anything. I agree with the rule purge valve, but what ignited the fumes? It should not be from the spark plug because the intake valve should be closed when the spark plug fires.
