Model selection help
I ordered a 4 e-hybrid in Jan and am about to take delivery in 2 weeks. I just realize I won't get the federal tax credit. To me this is frustrating as this almost prices the hybrid and 4S on par and the only reason I got the hybrid was cost. I also figured the electric motor would increase responsiveness and reduce turbo lag a bit despite added weight.
Debating now on buying a very lightly used 4S or to really save a base 4 and tuning it up to the 4S specs (I know this voids warranty).
Maybe I'm overthinking it and just deflated. The hybrid is still a great car and is my spec. I think I'm also overthinking the impact of the extra 500 pounds as I couldn't really feel it in the test drive.
Thoughts?

I *LOVE* my P4EH. No way would I trade it even steven for a 4S of the same value, regardless of the rebate.
Are you sure you are not getting the rebate? There was a grandfathering that if you had signed something by some date prior to the passage of the law you get the rebate. I'll take a quick Google look. Tell us when you signed an order for the car - sounds like January which would work.

I think you are in luck - directly from the IRS FAQ:

Q: If I signed a contract to purchase an electric vehicle prior to enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act (before August 16, 2022) but have not yet taken possession of the vehicle, will the changes in the Inflation Reduction Act impact my tax credit?
No. If you entered into a written binding contract to purchase a qualifying electric vehicle before the date of enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act (August 16, 2022), the changes in the Inflation Reduction Act will not impact your tax credit. You may claim the credit based on the rules that were in effect before August 16, 2022. The Internal Revenue Service provides information on “written binding contract” here: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/plug-...30-and-irc-30d.

...if a customer has made a significant non-refundable deposit or down payment, it is an indication of a binding contract.

Completely disagree. Great jingle though.
Electric around town, hybrid on a trip, and faster than a 4S when you spin the dial to sport. Just got back from a 300 mile (mostly freeway) trip and averaged 32 mpg and charged for free at the hotel. And I hauled ***, at least Northern Virginia style.
