Default Audi engine equivalent

Hi All, I am a new member so go easy on me.

I recently purchased a 2018 Panamera 971 3.0L Turbocharged V6. The engine was partially dismantled. In the past I was able to find a Audi/VW equivalent. All of my research goes back to it being an Audi engine. It seems the 2018 Audi S5/SQ5 has the same engine.

Does anyone know the engine equivalent or confirm?

Cylinders are iron plasma treated-

To create a sufficiently robust iron running surface, the cylinder walls are first roughened with a special milling tool which cuts a dovetailed pattern into the cylinder. The resulting undercuts ensure that the APS coating adheres properly. A rotating plasma torch is then inserted into the cylinder. An arc discharge is used to create a plasma into which a powdered coating material is blown using compressed air. The powder melts and is sprayed onto the rough cylinder wall. There it solidifies and fills the undercuts thus creating a wear layer. A layer of iron (roughly equivalent to 100Cr6 bearing steel) is applied in several layers in approximately 30 seconds. The final thickness is approximately 150 micrometers. (One micrometer equals one millionth of a meter.)

My understanding is they are the same engine. Tuning differs.

Yes, they are the same engine but on the Audi, it is usually paired with ZF8H automatic while on Porsche they are usually paired with PDK (except in Cayenne which sticks with ZF8H)
  • 2017-2020 Panamera uses the same Audi 3.0 V6 single turbo as S4, S5, SQ5, A6, A7, A8, Q7, Q8.
  • 2017-2022 Panamera S uses the same Audi 2.9 V6 twin turbo as RS4, RS5, S6, S7.
  • 2021-2022 Panamera switched to the same Audi 2.9 V6 twin turbo as Panamera S but at lower output.
The difference between Audi 3.0 and 2.9 is the thickness of cylinder wall as already noted (and obviously twice the turbo charger)

This is great info. Thank you so much. Is there any VW models using the 3.0 as well?

This a very helpful listing. Not directly linked to the question on 3.0 engines, would it be possible to generate a similar list for V8 4.0 L turbo engines that are being used in the current generation of Panameras and Cayennes-what are the parallels, if any, to Audi, as RS6, RS7 run on what appears to be same or very similar engines.

The 4.0 V8 in all the VW Group cars are all the same too. Just different tune.

The four primary engines in new VW/Audi/ Skoda/Porsche/ Lamborghini Urus are;

2.0 ex Macan, Q5
2.9 ex Panamera S, Audi S5
3.0 ex Panamera base
4.0 ex Panamera Turbo, Urus, Audi RS6

Does the the V6 Panamera use a "real" ZF PDK or the adapted Audi PDK like the Macan does? I know the V8 Panamera's have a "real" PDK, but not sure about the V6's, I'd assume they share the same one the Macan uses.

I think (I'm not sure) both V6 and V8 971 Panamera uses Porsche's 8 speed PDK.

Macan runs Audi's S-Tronic 7 speed dual-clutch rebranded as PDK.

base panamera is now the 2.9 biturbo now just detuned. Panamera GTS is also the 4.0. But the base Cayenne is the 3.0 turbo while the Cayenne S is the higher tuned 2.9 biturbo same as Panny 4S

Default Different engine blocks for the 3.0L?

so I purchased a 3.0L for a 2019 Q8 and it seems the motor mount brackets for the 2018 Panamera are not lining up. The block on on Panamera says 06M103023 DD and the Q8 say 06M103023 CZ.

Is the block different or is there a bracket I’m missing?

any help would be much appreciated.

Hi All, I am attempting to rebuild my 3.0 cxt EA839 engine. The heads are rebuilt and ready to be installed. I am having a hard time finding service manuals. Does anyone have access to the service manuals? Right now I really need the Cylinder head bolt sequence and torque specs. Any info would be much appreciated.
