Default Opinions Needed on Possible Purchase

Hello All,

Looking to get some thoughts on the following Panamera I’m considering for purchase, which would be my first ever P-Car. Note - I would not be able to test drive as it’s not local and I have never previously owned a Porsche.

More specifically, looking for comments on the following:

1) Price - too much? Looks like MSRP was just over $151k. It does have additional warranty as it is a CPO.

2) Color - general thoughts on Carmine Red? Is it too flashy? I’m a financial advisor and visit many clients at their home.

3) Options - missing a few that I would have liked to have including rear wheel steering, PDCC, surround view camera, assistance package. Any of these a deal breaker?

4) Race-Tex interior - bit worried about durability and comfort ability with these. Anyone have any insight?

Any other thoughts/comments for a potential first time Porsche owner would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. See link below for listing.

I'm in the market for a preowned Cayenne, and am being selective about options and color. I am under no time pressure.

If you have no time pressure, be selective and wait for your target combinations of color and options. I am not a fan of bright (carmine) red. Regarding price, scan the market on cargurus and similar and you will get a feel for prices.

It's basically a new car so price is fine.

If you are worried about flashy then red is not the way to go.

You want RWS at least. PDCC is nice but rare, unlike RWS there seems to be some controversy if PDCC is worth the price. I would NOT buy a car like this without surround view camera or Assistance package including adaptive cruise. Those would be deal breakers for me. Missing those also makes resale difficult as in this market segment most buyers expect those items on a car at this price point.

Race-tex holds up well on areas you don't touch. It wears out on shift ***** and steering wheels, which can be replaced.

To me it sounds like you should look for a better optioned car in a more muted color.

If this were the car you would have spec’d anyway, it may have been worth paying over MSRP, to get it right away.

But there are so many things missing. IMO rear axle steering is a must have. We got an Audi with it and would love to have it on every car we own from now on. Surround view is a must.

If you are a leather guy, you won’t be happy with the race-tex.
And your gut tells you red is too flashy.

If you can’t find one closer to what you want, I recommend ordering one with everything you desire.
Yes, it’s a hassle, yes, the wait is long, but I am convinced that in the end, it will be worth it. These cars are just too expensive for you to be any less than thrilled every time you reach for that key fob and walk to that car.

I would agree with the feedback you’re getting. Red, yes, too flashy for a financial advisor. I’d immediately question what I was paying for - your advice, or your car.

As for options, the one I _know_ I miss is Surround View. On a car this size, if you don’t have it, establish a good relationship with a wheel repair vendor. RWS I’ve never experienced, but I think I would hold out for it, given the list of other things you’re already wanting.

If you aren't driving the car in track-like performance situations, why would you pay for PDCC? And, a Panamera isn't really a track car anyway.
Rennlist can't decide the color for you. I have a white Panamera Turbo, and a Carmine Red GT4. Both work for me.
A backup camera is very helpful, as the high rear deck is hard to see over when reversing. An aftermarket solution for this is not expensive.
The interior is a mix of Napa and Race-Tex (Alcantara style). I've had both, and don't mind the Race-Tex.
Can't help you on price, other than to say the used market is headed down since June and Panameras are not the hottest selling Porsches. They are, in fact the lowest by unit volume. They sell 6 times as many Macans. Might be worth some effort negotiating.

I don't track my GTS but I'd never have another one without PDCC. It's remarkable how flat the car stays, just taking cloverleaf freeway offramps and other quick turns. And loose items in the car don't tend to fall over during those turns.

I also have the Alcantara interior and even after 10 years there's absolutely no sign of wear, although I don't have it on the steering wheel.

Is PDCC now standard on the Turbo S and above? I don't see it as a selectable option anymore on the configurator.

I think it was always standard on the Turbo S.

exactly on PDCC. Driving is more run to hit a corner or exit at high speed. Lots of cars can go fast in a straight line, but few take corners well. I test drove one without PDCC and I could feel the body roll entering and exiting the highway.

I have a 2018 turbo. Not sure if it has it standard or not. Car did have RWS optioned. It corners very flat. I am thinking not and the standard PDCC started w/ the 971.2 turbo cars.

PDCC also reduces the coupling of the left and right suspension so the wheel suspension moves independently when you are not cornering thus smoothing the ride on bumpy roads. If your roads are smooth then PDCC only helps during cornering.

Standard on Turbo S, not Turbo, at least on the earlier models.

Surround View to me is a must. Rear steering is quite nice.

PDCC that to me is take it or leave it in a Panamera. What it's built for 95% of Panamera buyers would never miss it. Not to mention it adds more to maintenance side of the vehicle. Trust me the GTS handles just fine without it. Porsche standard handling is just on a whole other level compared to most car MFG. It's leaps and bound above Audi, MB, BMW, etc that most people are cross shopping.

I think you could spec a new one out and be pretty close to the same price with options you want outside of the PDCC.
