Default Front Suspension - Questions

Hi,

I was feeling and hearing some clunky noises from the front right wheel area and my dealer told me I have to replace the front sway bar bushings (both the right and left are changed at the same time) and they also found that the left upper control arm was loose and has to be replaced (even though I don’t feel anything out of the ordinary from the left side).

I have the Porsche 2 year CPO pre-owned warranty that came with the car when I purchased it from the dealer.

A few questions:

- I understand that bushings, which can wear, are not covered by this warranty but shouldn’t the upper control arm be covered?

- like bushings, is it necessary for both front control arms to be changed at the same time?

- the dealer wants to charge me about $1,500, including parts and labour, to change both front sway bar bushings and the left upper control arm, which I find very high, so can I have these parts changed at my trusted mechanic without voiding the warranty?

- I can purchase an additional two year Porsche CPO warranty when this one ends but I must do my maintenance at the dealer. Does this maintenance include bushings and control arms?

- any recommendations on which online store and which brand of aftermarket parts I should buy if I decide to have my mechanic do the work?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Buy oem and have your shop of choice do the work . So long as you can prove nothing was neglected I don't think any warranty can be denied . FCP euro has good parts support for Panamera's .

Also , if blown out suspension is not covered it makes me wonder what is covered ?

I just checked the warranty brochure for the two year warranrty and the only suspension parts listed as not covered are shock absorbers.

I am showing this to my dealer. I already paid about $600 to have the lower control arm bushings replaced a few months ago as they said these were not covered so I am going to ask for a reimbursment.

As well, I am not worried about the current warranty being voided if I buy the parts OEM and change them at my local mechanic, I am worried that if I decide to extend the warranty for another two years, which Porsche offers, I will not be allowed to as I did not change these parts at Porsche. If they are covered, then this point is moot.

Question: when they say sway bar, is it the same as a stabilizer bar? If I buy OEM, is this what they are called? Can I buy the bushing alone or do I buy the whole stabilizer/sway bar link, which I assume comes with the bushing??

Thanks

The sway bar bushes are not expensive in the slightest , and are separate from the bar .

`the dealer recommends that I change all four (upper and lower) sway bar bushings. Is this correct?

This is the sway bar bushes, 2& 3, different folk call them different things , over in the Uk, it’s just an anti roll bar . I bought them to fit to mine but they didn’t actually need done. A lot of main dealers just like to throw parts at them, it’s the Porsche thing to do lol.

It should all be covered by CPO. I had same work done under warranty. Not sure what year car is, mine’s ‘14 and front end clunk, banging etc very common and only resolved replacing all bushings and control arms, etc. Make sure they grease bushings well or they’ll squeak like crazy when it gets cold.

What I find strange is that the clunkiness is coming from the right front side and the dealer said this is caused by loose sway bar bushings (both sides), but that they also discovered that the control arm on the left side was also loose.

Can loose bushings produce a clunky feeling?

Here's a link I provided my local dealer:
https://www.insanegarage.com/panamer...nter-bushings/

They fixed it all under factory warranty, but CPO should be the same.

Hello, sorry to revive this thread but I have a similar situation. CPO panamera GTS with clunking. When getting an oil change today at my indy, they mentioned my bushings need replacing.

I just got my CPO only 6 months ago. Curious as to how your situation was resolved and covered by CPO?

I am chasing this issue myself. Even thought i it is not as loud when going over the bump but it is still clunking when going over the bumps.

I replaced the following but the clunk still occurs over big bumps.

First I replaced upper control arms as many on rennlist pointed out this would be the first issue.

Then I replaced the sway bar bushings but it also didn't solve it (even though it improved it)

Finally I replaced the sway bar end links ( I didn't see any noticeable improvement)

Does anyone know what is going on or how to permanently fix it? I know many people complained about this issue on 970 but did anyone actually manage to fix it once and for all?

I have read that lower control arms are least concern when it comes to this clunk but it also the most tedious to replace so I chose not to perform it for now until I am 100% certain the source of the clunk from it.

I will check shock mount but I doubt it is the issue and same from braces from shock towers to windshield but I will double check it.

I will check tie rod but what would be the issue here as I don’t see moving parts in tie rod?
