Default Rear end noise

I searched but could not find an a possible answer.

if i drive say 50 mph and i let off gas oedal i hear this grinding noise in rear right. I lifted the car and there is grease around the axle on driver side though. Checked the boot and there are no tears, doesnt make sense. Only grease around the ring, on the exhaust. Nothing on passenger side, no fluid around differential. Car only has 86k. Where the heck is this grease coming from?

I believe it might be the inner CV joint like this: https://www.porschepartsdepot.com/oe...nt-97033203314

But, I'm not sure. I was just looking at diagrams.

Is that your lift? That's pretty nice if so!

The inner joint appears to be a CV type joint/bearing since the shaft bends right there. Clunky, grindy noises are pretty indicative of a failed CV joint, and it could be causing more heat and pressure to force out the grease. That said, I'm not a CV expert and I don't know a lot about the AWD driveline yet. I'm just trying to research and help because I can only assume I'll have to deal with this myself sooner or later. Hopefully someone more experience can chime in and verify.

Looks like someone posted a pretty good walkthrough from a repair manual here: https://www.2carpros.com/questions/h...ange-rear-axle
