Question 2014 possible purchase

Hi folks, looking at a '14 base for my wife to share the garage with the 911. I'm trying to arrange a PPI but in the meantime I noticed a could things and would love some feedback from you all. I've attached a couple pics for reference.

That tensioner looks wasted to me, bushing is shot and it is leaking.

Dirty down there, some might be from tensioner oil traveling around the belt... Look at the very bottom of the pic, that blue bolt. WTH is that?? It had a little oil around it.

same area, that blue bolt in the middle. I swear it looks like someone has been here before, cable clamp was hanging, and that weird *** blue bolt...

Look carefully from below to ensure the staining is not oil from the timing chain cover or valve covers. Known issue on the 970 V6 (also V8) engine. Aluminum bolts fail causing leak. Typically see oil around the front of the engine around the alternator, oil filter housing, and oil pan (front left of engine). Can look simply like leaking oil pan. VERY costly repair if out of factory warranty and no aftermarket warranty to cover.

If this is found I’d walk away unless you wrench yourself. Done the “Porsche way” it’s an engine out repair.

Can read my experience here:

Ding ding ding, you win the prize. PPI showed cover leak engine removal required along with engine mounts. So now we'll see if Carvana is going to cover all the repairs or if we just return the car. Should be interesting to see as it's not a small bill from Porsche for the work... Stay tuned

We'll see. If they dont the car goes back, no cost to me. The Porsche service writer has worked with them before and they have been willing to cover any issues. Meh, we'll see. We've bought several vehicles through Carvana and been super happy with the whole process and cars.

So did Carvana let you arrange a PPI? I’ve been skeptical of them, and have been hoping to find a decent local (or member sold) 970.1 GTS or Turbo.. Did you have to essentially buy the car first, since you mentioned returning it?

So the way it works is you “buy” a car but no paperwork gets processed for 7 days. During that time you can call them and tell ‘em to come get it , return your trade if you had one and everything is null and void. You can also have them bring you another car to try for a week. My PPI and work will take more than the seven days so they extended the trial time.

Ah, neat. That gives me a little more comfort in potentially using them if a 2010-2014 Turbo or 13-14 GTS pops up that meets my criteria. How does payment work, you don't have to transfer funds for 7 days as well? Wondering if there's a chance of money getting stuck for a week or two if you do return a car.

you have to show the funds available or financing but nothing gets executed until after the trial period. We’ve done several transactions with Carvana and have been very pleased.

So update on the car, Carvana approved repairs and they have been completed by the Porsche dealer with a $50 "out of network" fee for me to pay since I didn't use a carvana service center. They pulled the engine, resealed, replaced the motor mounts, and did a four wheel alignment. I'm pretty happy.

Wow thats fantastic. Seems like you had a good experience with Carvana, may have to give them a shot in the future.
