Default Interior shredding

Hi all,

The area around the cup holders on my 2020 4ehybrid is starting to shred. You can see in the attached photo that the leather/vinyl? Is rubbing off. I have never used any chemicals to clean the interior. The arms of passengers might rest on that spot but that shouldn’t be an issue. I have an upcoming service appointment but was curious to hear if anyone else has had this experience. Never, ever had this type of problem in any previous cars.

Thanks!

That's sooo not right. I've seen something like that on a refinished leather, never on a 2year old car. Let us know what happens

Yup - that's been sprayed or otherwise re-colored.

Hi. To provide an update for the board: I went to the dealer and the service adviser said that Porsche (and other brands as well) puts a soft touch coating on some of the leather surfaces. Lotions and sunscreens in particular can react with the surface and cause the peeling. It is not, however, covered by the warranty. He’s going to get me a price to replace the part but I’m going to hold off. I’m away from home for a few weeks so I will likely take this into another dealer for a second opinion once I get back. The service adviser suggested rubbing the coating off the entire area. The color of the underlying leather should match the rest of the interior once the area has been “peeled” and cleaned. Apparently, this is not so rare and the exposed leather is not vulnerable. The coating allows the surface to be wiped clean easily and the exposed leather now would only require the same effort as cleaning something off the seat, for example. The center armrest/cup holder area as well as the arm rests in the doors have this coating and could be affected so be forewarned!

Needless to say, I’m pretty disappointed. If these coatings are indeed applied, Porsche needs to find a more durable solution. I’ve had genuine leather on other cars and this has never happened.

Go to a different dealer. That should be covered. That's not a Natural thing to happen on a two year old car. Fight for what you deserve

I hate when dealers come up with these carefully crafted responses that equal No, but we can charge you
