Default Porsche Connect - Remote Start

I was incredibly surprised to learn that remote start is not available using Porsche Car Connect.
What the heck is going on at Porsche? For someone who lives/drives in colder climates, the presence in my Volvo XC90 is a huge improvement in quality of life.

Come on Porsche...

I don't understand why anyone would want/need remote start
Porsche specifically cautions against letting the car idle unattended. Plus they say this: "Do not warm up the engine when stationary. Drive off immediately."
Most people who are familiar with how engines operate and especially people sensitive to engine longevity know that extended warm ups have the potential to damage the engine.
In addition, the Panamera offers heated seats, heated steering wheel, and it has a sophisticated thermostat which allows for quick engine warm up.

Because they wouldn't mind heating/cooling their car before they get in? I'm sitting on a proprietary database with millions of logged engine, reduction gear, transfer case, PTO, hours that doesn't support the harm claim. Just the opposite, immediate loading will reduce life span somewhat. I think more likely what you're looking at is that they get a break in the testing cycle if they recommend driving immediately because you light the cats sooner and the clock starts with ignition.

In general i find that Porsche connect does not do much. A friend has a BMW and they can view through the cars cameras while they are away. This would be a good feature

Well, thanks for your opinion; however, I'll go with Porsche and the countless other folks who realize that a rich mixture tends to wash oil from the cylinder walls which is one reason they don't recommend letting a cold engine idle for extended periods of time.
And nobody is talking about putting an immediate load on the engine. I typically start the car and then fasten the seat belt, check to be sure the mirrors are properly adjusted, check the headlights to be sure they're in the desired position, and possibly select a GPS destination and/or tune the radio. This usually takes around 30 seconds. Then I drive away keeping an eye on the oil temperature to be sure I use moderate rpm (but not too low) and partial throttle (low loads) until the car warms up properly.
When it's cold outside I find the heater warms the car very quickly and the heated steering wheel and heated seats do a wonderful job.
When it's warm outside, I can turn on max AC and enjoy a blast of ice cold air literally in a matter of seconds.
In other words, the time I spend in my car being too hot or two cold is always very short and I don't find it uncomfortable at all.
So I'm happy and so is my engine.
But if you're happier doing something else, suit yourself.

In all honesty I hope you understand it some day. You need not agree with it but understanding should be feasible.
cheers!

You don't have a rich mixture warming up anymore but you would be right back in 1972. In any event I'll take extremely detailed factual data over massaged corporate spew and we'll both be happy. Other than that I can only agree that you don't think you need or want to warm/cool your car before you get in. Your car, your opinion, you own both so it's all good. Others have their own equally right opinion; that is if you don't mind?

The hybrids offer it. My '18 Panamera E-Hybrid can start the heating (or cooling) remotely from the app, it doesn't start the ICE but uses the hybrid battery which is the way these cars start up anyway. In regards ICE warmup it does make me wince a little that I can be flying down the highway at 80mph+ on a cold day and the ICE has still not started up - I usually force it on by selecting a Sport mode and let it warm up before getting to highway speeds. Maybe I am old school.

There are repairs on these cars that will end their service life due to the expense, like replacing a PDK for example. Aside from bore scoring which is rare on newer cars, wearing out the engine is not on the list of my concerns and any reasonable treatment of these engines is fine. Don’t use the start-stop feature to any large extent.

Mozella55, heated seats, heated steering? You mean the settings that can't be remembered once you turn the engine off??? Come and talk to me when it's 40 below ...

They create a stupid *** that can't be permanently defeated (so they can fudge their mpg) but refuse to deliver a Remote Start... oh well...

If I return to MN, the first thing to go is the Panamera. I love the car but it's way too inconvenient when it comes to some "basic" things. And when it's -20F outside and you leave work and the steering wheel isn't warm... Thanks to Raynaud's disease, I can't handle that any more.

Sorry but Im not buying that letting my highly engineered Porsche idle for a while to warm up is going to damage it in Any way. Thats absolute foolishness. If I had remote start on my cars like I do my Dodge Ram I would be using it. BTW the Audi Q5 doesn't offer it either.

If want to rapidly warm car, follow the procedure I use on rental cars (but not my porsches lol). Start car, floor accelerator, choose defroster, turn fan on high, put hands in pockets. Typically warm air starts to occur in 45-50 seconds. Done this for successfully for over 20 yrs. Recent cars take more skill, they program to either limit rpm’s or drop them when floored for more than few seconds. Have to learn each model and how to feather gas pedal to keep rpm’s up. Car pours hot air within 1-2 min, even down to low teens in my experience. Using this method has side benefit of deicing windshield quickly so only have to scrape/clean if >2-3” of snow. I rarely get suv cause takes too long to heat large inside. YYMV
