I changed oil for the first time a month ago on new to me 2012 P4 with 70K miles. I bought the car from a non-Porsche dealer and I suspect its "tech" used an impact wrench to reinstall the brace taken off to get to the filter. One of the steel bolts securing the brace snapped off. There was enough thread left that, for a temporary fix, I put a nut on it. I bought 7 new bolts from a P dealer. Over the weekend, my friend Scott helped me make the repair and only a man with his shop, skills and tools would be able to do this. This is a pictorial, which I hope serves as a warning for you DIY'ers.
Scott. He used to be a professional welder. Brace in place. Right side of car. Note one nut and one bolt Scott welding It got plenty hot Nevertheless, welded nut wouldn't turn the threads and it snapped off again. Actually, twice Clean snap off Still some threads left but we couldn't get it to turn. Plan B, prepare for drill and tap So, ground off flat And, of course, the bit broke in the hole. And, of course, it was a _itch to get out. Drilled. Then drilled more to just short of the thread diameter. Tapped and ready for new bolts. Used neverseize and treated them tenderly
I don't think it helped to have a steel bolt in aluminum but I still blame some idiot with an impact wrench.
Be careful so this doesn't happen to you and be thankful for the Scott's out there.
