Sorry for the confusion, I really meant "Rear Axle Steering" (RAS), it's the $1,620 option that many people on this forum have raved about and I too am a big fan. I get too used to talking to co-workers about how the rear wheels turn at low/high speeds that I have had my vocabulary altered slightly by calling it "Rear Wheel Steering" (RWS). Once I say that to non-Porsche folks, the light bulb goes off and they immediately understand what I'm talking about but I forget sometimes the different accronyms between car manufacturers. In a nutshell though, I really am glad that I checked that box as it has made the car seem more nimble.

No offense cbenz, don't get me wrong, if you don't have RAS, it won't make the PTT an awful car by any stretch of the imagination. I just figured that if someone was to be "looking" around at what's available, why not compare a model with and without the option since the size of the car, or the feeling of it while driving, is what this thread is about. Either way, I think that all PTTs, both Sport Turismo variant and non, are great! I love seeing them on the highway, which surprisingly is pretty infrequent in this town. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough....lol.

Mine was certified so as much as I wanted the RWS most did not have it - at least on the 4-hybrid

If you have to do much parking in the city the RWS gives you a little more crank; it's surprisingly helpful in tight spots. Along with that a city driver would be wanting to consider the surround cameras.

I've owned both. The S8 is a different type of beast. Its very very comfortable and smooth. Doesn't handle corners like the Panamera but goes like stink in a straight line. Just a tad bit slower than the Panamera due to its size. The interior, storage, and trunk space is a lot more. The Panamera is an amazing drivers car.

Panny is still a plenty big car though - was in the end too big for me. I prefer a smaller sedan - all depends what you are looking for.

Panny is on the MSB platform, sharing it with Bentley. A6/A7 through RS6/7 are on the MLB platform, same as the Macan.

I drove an RS7, which is slightly faster than the S8 with a bit more sporty suspension.

Anything but a Turbo S is going to be noticeably slower in a launch or straight line. However, the Porsche is far better at handling the torque and hp and getting it to the ground - sometimes the crazy early torque of the Audi TT4.0 gets squirrelly. The transmission is the Audi is every bit as good if not better for regular driving, the Porsche is noticeably better driving more spirited where the PDK really shines. The S8 has some really nice interior options over the RS7 and is more luxury oriented like the Porsche. They are probably on par quality wise, though maybe the Panamera is slightly better overall...maybe. Both the RS7 and S8 have slightly better technology than a 970 or 970.1 (night visions, lane assist, self driving crap, heads up display, auto brake stop). The Gen 2 Panamera got caught up. That said I actually like the slightly old school buttons of the 970 to having 34 menus to go through in the Audi system to get anything turned on and off; however the Audi is way more intuitive to figure out where things are.

If you want to tune to big HP numbers - Audi all the way.

looks like OP made his decision! That's a nice looking car. Is that Basalt black? I had a 2013 S in that color, but decided to go back down in size and $ value given the rest of my stable - so I recently went back to an older M5.

correct, i made the trade. like this a lot more than the s8, the s8 was quick in a straight line but it wasn't firm to the ground like the PTT, definately doesn't handle like the PTT, the PTT is much more planted and agile than the s8. did a tune on it and now its complete, pulls hard and a joy to drive

agreed about the comparison on the rs7 and s8, i have had both now and the rs7 is much more of a drivers car than the s8, i prefer the PTT with tune over both of them
