Default Stream from iDevice?

Buying a 2012 4. I see a USB connection in the console. What is it for? Will an iDevice full of music work to play music? Is there Bluetooth? Just for the phone function? Can you stream music from the iDevice?

sorry to have to ask what must have been asked and answered before but the search function is worthless.

usb ipod

Take a look here. for ipod and likely other devices.

I bluetooth (wirelessly) stream thru the aux selection on pcm. You can also wire connect thru the aux in the console. Mine is a 2012.

I have an old 30 gig ipod full of music as a back up for when I have no cell service. When plugged into the usb port an icon pops up under sources as IPOD just like selecting AUX or CD. I have not tried it but you can probably play mp3 from a usb thumbdrive also.

On 971s thumb drives work, not sure about 970; It would be easy to test out.

I have a USB thumb drive more or less permanently installed in my car, have something like 30-40 hours of music in there

thanks, DogWood and fatpan. I'll use either an old iPhone acting as an iPod or a thumb drive. Just glad to know I can do it for the music.

do I have it right that the iPhone can be paired so as to make and receive calls?

Yes, you pair also for hands-free use phone use. Just like you would expect with a bluetooth phone connection. Just pair and it works. For the streaming you have to set the AUX to be bluetooth source ( procedure in manual) one time then your golden on wireless streaming thru AUX(bluetooth) vs a cable to aux port in console or USB.
