New Panamera towing capacity

New Panamera towing capacity
Planning to get a new Panamera ST for towing race car to the track. Just confirmed with Porsche dealers, they said Trailer hitch is not configurable in US. Anyone knows where to get hitch for 2018/2019 Panamera? Anybody in US tried to tow with new Panamera before? Also from an Australian source the new Panamera can tow 3.5 metric tons, 7716lbs, is that true?

On the German Porsche website it's an option on the configurator (or available on the Tequipment website for a pre-prepared car). Max. 2.2 metric tons towing capacity (I think the 3.5t figure refers to the Cayenne). Don't know why it doesn't seem to be offered in the USA.

that is really interesting, the Germans are big on car camping... I am sure there is some regulatory reason why they are not offering it in the US market but the simple reason could be that few people would ever buy it. Americans overwhelmingly buy trucks and SUVs to tow things.
There is a guy I see at Laguna Seca with a really sweet Cayenne GTS towing a trailer with his GT4. It is a complete picture, a Panamera would be pretty cool.

the rear diffuser would have to be cut, there are a couple of companies that have made hitches for the 970, not sure if any have made one for the 971 yet.
I don't know if I'd want to do it very often (extra wear and tear - that is what the Jeep is for ) but I would love to see the expressions on peoples faces when towing my travel trailer with the Panamera LOL

PDKs are not designed for much weight. Macan is rated to around 4500lbs if I am recalling correctly. Different PDK, but still dual clutch. Suspension, etc. also come into play.

I am also looking for a hitch option - not to tow, but rather to use my bike rack (receiver hitch mount). I have reached out to both of the well known hidden hitch manufactures - but neither has had a 971 in to design one yet.
There are pictures out there - just not finding out a lot of info:

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? In the USA there’s still no hitch option, factory or aftermarket, that I can find. Am looking to do this on an e-hybrid sport turismo. Would really like to be able to move my boat of cargo trailer. Wondering if custom fabrication ia a realistic approach...

In my opinion, the main reason Porsche does not offer a trailer hitch in USA is low profit and high liability.
Transmission failure is a common malady with tow vehicles. No doubt you can find someone to make a custom hitch for just about every car. Best always is the oem hitch, which may take a bit of research to find. Along with the hitch consider adding more transmission cooling capacity.

Thanks for your replies.
Mallens - Still a Great video. That’s what makes this so frustrating! Porsche advertises their towing prowess and yet it’s not available to so many of us.
Kirkman - I suspect the same. I had a similar experience with a 2015 Audi Q3 but was able to get a Curt/uhaul hitch for a first gen. Tiguan that was a perfect fit. In anticipation of getting my Panamera ST e-hybrid I’ve been searching globally. There is apparently a factory hitch made for non-US cars but it reportedly will not fit the hybrid. If I could get hold of the install instructions I may be able to figure that out. It is part # 971 044 870.

Yes, that part lists for more than 3k USD and can be had for about $1,800. Still, I’d pay that if it could be fit to an ST e-hybrid just for the convenience of the occasional light duty tow.
