Porsche Panamera - Shift Gears Issue
Porsche Panamera 4S - 2011
Gear shift to "R" not working recently and randomly, So we run diagnose the issue by pulling the fault code(s):
P1731: Displacement Sensor Shift Rod Gears 4/6, Implausible Signal.
P1732: Displacement Sensor Shift Rod Gears 5/7, Implausible Signal.
Just for your information, The car has not been used for a long time and battery replaced about 3 years ago, car mileage is around 60,000KM and gearbox oil changed on 40,000KM.
Please let me know your thoughts on this matter, list what you guess to check and test from our side.
Thank you,

If the problem appears and I turn the car off and on, the problem will be solved and in some cases it will appears again.

I found solution for this case,
Porsche Panamera Uses ZF Transmission, for P1731 , P1732 , P1733 , P1734 fault codes not required to replace gearbox (PDK) or transmission control unit, Just simply replace following part:
- Sensor Pack (Position Sensor with Speed and Temperature Sensors)
- Part#: 97031708500 or 97031708530 (Make sure for compatibility with your VIN) , Estimated Price is 500 USD.
But before any replacement, make sure your battery life is good, because Porsche is one of the most sensitive cars to over/under voltage situations. So much technology is packed into them, that bad or going battery can and does make funny things with totally unrelated systems.
Everything in the car is controlled by microprocessors and when the voltages get low you get weird signals that can be misinterpreted by the other processors.
If not worked, then try to replace with above sensor pack.

Dark locks, I have seen you post about this issue for your 2012 Panamera turbo. I to have a 2012 turbo with the same symptoms. Did you ever get it fixed? Were these sensors this issue and did the whole transmission have to come out?

these last months of corona virus as been hard to find a shop.. so while i was searching i have replaced the battery for a new one. Didnt change anything, and 300km later the car never engaged again. I had it towed to my house. Monday im planning to tow the car to the dealer and have the temperature sensor replaced (97031708530)
They quote 4200$ CAD for the whole job.. which aint that much when you think about it. Oil, pan, sensor part, re-calibration ect..
Transmission dosnt have to come out from what i understand. Drop pan, drop body valve and you have acces to the part (97031708530).. porsche quote 10 hours.

ill post update after i get the car back from porsche, if you have any questions let me know.

the car is back from porsche.. 5500$ later everything seems to be fine
oil, filter, pan, wiring+sensor, transmission mount, pdk calibration did the tricks ( i hope =P )

Darklockz hopefully you still are there im recently experiencing the dreadful transmission fault error and have read the same solutions like the one you are describing and worked for you, almost a year later is the car still fine?
