Default Black window trim...

Love the look of black window trim, mine brushed silver. Anyone have experience in swapping it out for the gloss black factory pieces?

Not a simple “swap” and the trim pieces will be $$. Just have a shop vinyl over trim in gloss black.

Funny I’m looking to do that now

my dealer just called me with a quote to replace the window trim cost 2k. They mentioned the back windows in back door need to come out and go to shop as the trip is actually bonded to the window from factory.

still waiting on a vinyl wrap option price from the dealer as they have a guy that does it for customers.

so I don’t know what to do right now

I used plastidip on mine, turned out pretty well - I will need to redo a couple of spots, but they are really only noticeable if you are looking for them.

it's fairly easy and straight forward also easy to undo and it does actually look good.

Archer1021... was that $2K total, including parts? Only 1 terrible... not terrible, terrible. Suncoast offers the window trim for $1600.

Dogwood... car looks great. I have black vinyl on my A8 and it's held up great, much more cost-effective option.

I had the dealer change my trim from silver to glossy black last year. Got the parts from Suncoast. Dealer didn’t say it was difficult. I don’t have a price for the labor since I also swapped out the rear light to the dark ones.
no wrap or plasti dip will ever look as good as the factory glossy black trim.
The $2000 is worth it. Don’t skimp. It’s a Porsche.
I have wrapped an Audi with glossy trim and it actually looks ok. I know it won’t last though. Nothing is as smooth or shiny as the factory Porsche trim

My understanding is quite well, once it's thoroughly dried - I have not used a jet wash on my car, so I can't say from first hand experience .

I agree if you got the budget go factory, however my budget is limited, I have to pick and choose where I want to spend the money I have, and for me 2k to change a non performance part isn't worth it, the PlastiDip looks close to 80- 90% as good as the factor parts at 1/100th of the cost. Just makes more sense to me and frees up cash for other things.

I've had good success with plastidip on my older trucks. They hold up well if you apply it correctly. Fairly inexpensive option.

UPDATE:

my dealer said parts are 1,700

labot could be anywhere from 1,700 to 2000 installed due to the fact that the rear windows need to come out and the trim detached from glass.

i don’t think I feel like spending over 3k for black window trim.

the dealer has a wrapping company they use that just did a new targa chrome delete to gloss black vinyl to
give a price. My SA thinks between 7-800 for vinyl.

i think I may lean toward that. 3 k can buy you a lot and may not be worth it for just a window trim

I paid $350 for our Audi window trim wrap in glossy black. $800 sounds high. Any wrapping place can do it. Dealers always up charge. It’s their policy. Get a quote on your own I’ll ask my dealer how much my trim labor cost.
