Panamera Oil Consumption

Panamera Oil Consumption
hey i have oil consumption on a 2010 S and the tech said there may be SLIGHT leak from oil pan gasket or maybe the oil cooler gasket. they also think it might be issue with the crank case vent valve that is causing the oil consumption, does that make any sense ? What does this mean exactly?

I'm not familiar with the Panamera's engine (yet), but I suspect the malfunctioning valve might lead to oil vapors being combusted, hance the increased oil consumption. I know in other Porsche engines like in my old 911, they have an air oil separator which recovers the oil from the crank case vapors. How much is your increased consumption?

I think you right NJS, I believe they are talking about the oil/air separator
are you seeing white smoke from the exhaust?

2012 Turbo S Panamera
I see about 1/2 QT or so every 3000 miles or so. I just top it off. Everything I've read says that up to 1 QT per 3000-5000 miles is pretty normal. I have also read about issues with the oil separator and when that starts to go bad, you will see a bit of oil on top of the engine right under the hood. Most of these high hp twin turbo V8 and even V6 motors burn oil.

2014 Panamera Turbo S Executive, drinking oil
I purchased a preowned 2014 Panamera Turbo S Executive. The car had about 16k miles, and at 20k miles, (within a month) the car had already consumed 3 pints of oil. This seem insane on a car with such low miles. Any input would be appreciated. The amont of money spent on a car would at the very least constitute an engine that isn't a the max oil burning stage so early on in life. I heard there is a history of engines like these needing replacement. Any input would be apprecaited. The dealer is re-intalling a new air oil separator, and they will then seal off the entry and exit points, to measure exactly how much oil is being consumed. This is frightening so early on in the ownership of the car. I have the 2 year CPO warranty, but the original one is not longer valid.

jamie in 4000miles you consumed 3 liters or pints? if its liters then its about same as me, if its pints then that 1.5 liters over 4000 miles which isnt bad at all.
to check if AOS is going bad, have you tried taking off the oil cap while vehicle is idle? is it difficult to take off?

Just got a 2013 S and it burned 1L in 3K miles.
That's within spec for these engines. They don't get worse with time necessarily.
I owned a E39 M5 that burned 1L every 4-5K Miles. Did so from 40K to 110K during my ownership.

Recently purchased 2018 sport turismo turbo with 6,800 miles. Made sure to have all services up to date including oil change at purchase. Have put on 3,000 miles. Car just called for 2 quarts of oil! I put in the oil and the digital gauge reads full. I have had three previous Porsche (two 911 and Cayman R which I track) and I have never experienced any of these cars burning oil at all. This is making me feel very apprehensive. Dealer of course says there should be no problem? Anyone with new model turbo experiencing this amount of oil consumption?

Both times after adding I checked to make sure the level gauge read somewhere comfortably in the middle.

I have worked with a few tuner shops and they do the standard oil changes but add a bottle of Liqui Moly Ceratec to address a bit of the oil loss which ends up in your intake. And, with a DISI motor, that carbon build up will occur faster with blow by. The oil separator helps but at full boost conditions, oil will get by. I will go a full 5,000 miles between oil changes and not have to top up. Seems to be pretty common on the 4.8 motors and even the newer 4.0.

I wonder if the air/oil separator system may be the cause of excessive oil consumption? Specifically, wonder if under high boost conditions the separator is overwhelmed and the oil mist passes to the intake without a chance to separate oil (and drain back)? High oil consumption may also be present with n/a Panameras; and could still mean a weak air/oil separator.
