The RX-7 FD is interesting. I had a '79 SA22C model in college and loved it. I just read thru a FD model buyer's guide and it reads like a copy of the 996's. Basically, a great car with a few minor issues and then a big scary catastrophic engine failure problem that has largely been solved with a little bit of preventative maintenance. Definitely going to research the FD further.
Yep, agree that the S2000 is a great choice. Not much to discuss there.
This week I read thru a buyer's guide for the Lotus Esprit Turbo. General consensus was about what I thought - ultra cool exotic but basically a POS as a daily driver.
Keep 'em coming. Several cars I hadn't thought of so far.
Anybody here own an XK8 or XKR coupe? Too "old man" for a first car? I'm thinking that with a few tasteful mods, you could get rid of some of the old man vibe.
Also, any thoughts on handing down the '99 C4 996 Aero to the boy? Too much car?

I had a 300zx TT at 17. It was a wonderful auto, and great examples can be found today well within your budget. I also had a 350z it was a blast to drive. I can't say enough good stuff about either of them. They would make great first cars.

For $10-15k you could find a very well sorted 16v Porsche 928. Probably could find a clean early 32v also.

S2000, I've owned 2, for pure driving experience I'm not sure it gets any better in that price range.

But I'd also like to throw the Audi s4 in the ring, twin turbo or the v8.
