I'm looking at kind of a garage find 500e that has been sitting for a couple of years.
I'd love to hear from anyone with experience with these cars, or with what to watch out for in any car that's been sitting for an extended period.
Thanks in advance.
How many years a car has been sitting can drastically affect what needs to be done. Years ago I was away and left a 944 sitting for about 4 years. Had the local Porsche dealer change the fluids, belts, battery, recharge AC, new tires and the car ran fine no problems. This was back in 2000 cost of resurrecting the car was about $3,200. Also, brought a much higher end car back to life in 2006...it had been sitting in a garage unused for 10 years. On that car I had to replace, tires, all rubber hoses, battery, tires, cam shaft seals, shift shaft seals, and a bunch of other things and the cost was about $12,000. But after that no issues.
The W124 is a great platform and the 500E is amazing. My parents bout a 300E in 1989. Kept it 15 years and when they got rid of it, the car had 246,000 miles. It was still incredible solid. No rattles, no squeaks. I've heard squeaking in newer MBs that only had 1/3 that amount of mileage. Good luck!

Thanks. My mom had a '91 300E and my recollection is exactly the same. Extremely well built car.
