Pros. vs cons. as a more fuel efficient, but still fun DD/DE car......

I wouldn't have called my wrx fuel efficient.
Good dd especially in snow and ice country
I don't like it as a de car too much. What would it be replacing.

I have an 09 WRX its a great dd..drive it about 120 miles/day and average about 27 mpg
Have had it on the track once, its a pretty fun and capable car...
You will need to improve the brakes/suspension if you plan on regularly taking to the track

Thanks for the responses so far.....
It would be just an additional "fun" car, not replace anything....
I would be looking at a 2012 WRX, not STI version since my wife thinks the WRX looks too racy already.....

Paolo, my de-facto brother in law in med school at Brown just go a new WRX not an STI. So far, he loves it. When he was down for break he had not broken the engine in yet, so I didn't drive it. When I get a chance to drive it, I will let you know my impressions. I think as a DD up in Boston it would be great, depending on how far your practice is from your house. As for DE, mmmmm I think compared to you F class car it wouldn't be very fun. The suspension will be very soft and while the BHP is like 260 or so, when paired with a 3100 lb car, it will seem slow. Also, the cam profile is designed for the street, so you run out of steam pretty early. I expect the performance is slightly less than my mazdaspeed3 with the all wheel drive.

'02 here, and I really enjoy it. Great dd, very good on the highway, though the seats are a little stiff for really extended road trips. In town, if I stay out of the turbo, it gets pretty decent mileage (21 mpg on last fillup). Ditto on the highway, 26 mpg a couple of weeks ago driving speed limit + 6.
I probably won't track it, other than the occasional autox, until I can upgrade suspension/brakes.

I have taken my tow vehicle on a DE just to see how it handled....
Surprisingly it performed very well for a truck.....
The WRX would be a fun DD with better than 13 MPG fuel efficiency, and
occasional DE car for my wife to drive....
Question is the STI worth the extra $$?

Also are you set on awd? There are a ton of rwd cars (imho) would be much better suited to the job of DD/DE car

Seb, I can get a brand new 2012 WRX for less than $25K, as opposed to $35K of the EVO, plus this is the last year Mitsubishi is making the EVO......
As far as rear wheel drive, is there anything new out there in the price range of the WRX that can be tracked easily and also used as a DD year around in New England?.......
