I would approve of this moving practice if all of OT becomes threads about Camaros, Corvettes, and 90s Rustangs, but a small production VW - that is the parent company of Porsche - come on.
+1 Simply ridiculous practice. I would have missed it.

Fred, I was also thinking about the Phaeton in 08. Finally decided to go for an A8. Best car choice ever, zero issues at almost 160,000 miles. No issues with suspension or any other expensive, overengineered parts. In the end the fuel consumption was a deciding factor, with the same engine the Phaeton uses some 35% more fuel.

+2. The only reason I ever get here is from a "moved" link in OT. This is off topic to Porsche and belongs in the OT area.

And that's exactly why we decided to create this forum.
Look at it as an OT discussion forum just for cars.
All Rennlisters can post here about their non Porsche cars, interesting cars, news, DD etc.

So, why are you complaining?
Because it is located outside the OT section and it's open for non-members? ?

Then put it right under OT where the thread is visible.

In theory it sounds like a great idea. In practice, not so much.

I look at three parts of this forum. OT, P&C (only if I see an interesting topic in the OT header) and the 993 forum and thats only if I need some info. Therein lies the rub... I wont see any topics and perhaps be helpful if I don't go there. I think the vast majority of RL'ers do the same. This and many other similar threads will suffer the same fate as a result.

Gents thanks for the suggestions, we started it as an open forum following the pattern of the other non Porsche related RL subforums.
Perhaps we can create a shortcut/link in the OT, for those of you that don't browse any other place.
Would you like that?

No actually it was our idea, and last time I checked none of us worked for IB.

What don't you like exactly? I'm curious.
Do you feel the same about all the other non Porsche subforums?
Because you have 300 posts in the Fire^rms and Accessories one..

This thread is under this subsection: Rennlist Discussion Forums > General Discussion Forums > Other Marque Discussions

But when I go to the general tab on the left, there's no subsection for "other marque discussions." So, unless I see this thread under off topic, I have no idea how to get to it. This is totally stupid.

Why not break off "off topic" into "financial," "personal problems," "health questions," etc etc etc.? --- Because it's dumb and it makes no sense. Just like this.

Sorry for this, but there is a technical issue adding new forums to the tab on the left.
We are working on it.

I think most within the RL community and those in OT especially view things like this... RL OT is a lot like putting your iPod on shuffle. For the most part you like what you get. If you don't you simply hit "forward" or in this case you simply don't click. Now if I want to listen to a particular group I listen to a vinyl record, a lot like me clicking on the 993 forum. Unless I want to learn something about another marque I'd likely never go there. I'll likely go to the marque specific forum. The reason I like OT's opinion is that we have Porsche sensibilities and opinion/advice will likely be along those lines.

All this sub forum seems to me is like a bunch of accountants and engineers got together and thought this made sense. Here's the good news, most don't think like that. Besides, I don't think there are so many queries along these lines that it clogs up OT. The only thing clogging up OT is Greg's (one of twenty) inane threads as of late

Of all the topics in OT, some of the most popular are about other cars. Why not just leave these discussions under general OT? Why make people work harder than necessary? That's all I have to add.

I didnt even know "Other Marque Discussions" existed until yesterday when I accidentally wound up there.
I would agree that other car discussions are a large part of OT and Ot will be somewhat watered down(further) without them.

Because this is burying threads where no one sees them. If IB wants more clicks, then they might as well leave threads in a location where people will click on them.

I guess if you want to raise the profile of the "other marques" section of the forum, then there are ways to do that as others have suggested, but right now it is forum Siberia.
