When Porsche does a new model, their preproduction cars outnumber the annual production run of most luxo/specialist sports manufacturers.

Having said all this, the improvements ARE being made. I am concerned that so many of the guys actually doing the work are not happy bunnies, its not like the happy family atmosphere at Ruf or MTM

Thats an amazing generalisation.

McLaren have produced a world-class product and yes it's obviously got a few flaws, but they are at least correcting them extremely quickly.

Ferrari made 458s that easily caught fire and then denied it for ages and they are much bigger company.

As for Porsche being the best, that's a joke, they sold a car in huge volumes (all 997s/Boxsters) with well-known flaws on the engine seals and denied the problem existed or attempted to fix it for literally years. There's a thriving industry in rebuilding blown stock Porsche engines that exists only due to their inability to admit to design flaws.

We're stuck with GT3, Scuderia, Z06/ZR1 and Viper ACR.

The Viper needs an accusump and some more coolers for the transmission and diff. Then it's ready, but it is a heavy car (3,700+ lbs with an average driver). I don't like heavy, plus they didn't race these cars that much.

Z06/ZR1 have been getting better year after year, look at the interior of the 2012 and compare that to a Beetle. They race these cars: ALMS, FIA-GT2, SCCA, NASA, they are much better these days.

GT3 have their fair share of defects and things to get fixed, including: RMS, LSD, coolant pipes breaking apart, the evil Center Locks. It is a good track car.

Scuderia only needs CCB replaced with steel brakes (a $5k update including pads), and it has a nice variety of pads available. Stiffer springs, and that's it. Car has been racing since 2005 in the F-challenge, FIA-GT2, FIA-GT3, ALMS, NASA and SCCA. Replacement Brembo rotors are $500 each.

I said it before, it would be a while for the MP4-12C to prove reliable, 3-4 years, brand new British car, it needs to be raced. Same thing goes for the F458 Italia, and same thing will apply to the next GT3, new 991 chassis/new engine/new tranny, it will need 2-3 years to sort out the bugs.

Wonder if they have any reservations painting one of these cars Gulf Blue? Absolutely no heritage there of course.
