I love my 550 with M Sport package. I get better mileage than my friends 535 because I am cruising on the highway at 70-80.

I went with a 2010 535xi since I live in the Metro NY area. The E60 550 did not come in x drive.

Would I buy a 535 again? You bet. After 24K miles, I have had no problems, and it have proven to be have great acceleration and an impressive road car and surprisingly very good gas mileage. In fact, my 2011 328xi gas mileage is worse. Go figure! We leased the 535 and with 10 months remaining, I will seriously consider buying it (under a CPO).

I have driven the F10 550xi. Nice car with very strong acceleration. But there are rear diff issues with the 550 that have finally been addressed in a TSB. After owning or leasing upwards of 8 BMWs beginning with a new 3 series in 1981, I believe that BMW's 6 cylinders are their best. Except for high pressure fuel pump issues which were clearly screwed up in the earlier run of 535s.

Now for another thought. If you need speed in your 4 door road trip car, think about a Benz E63.

Just another opinion.
