I had an S4 before the RS4's came out. Was living in Boston at the time. The awd system was brilliant in the snow, so good that I never bothered to use snow tires. It was great fun to switch off the traction control and watch all four wheels shoot rooster tails of snow. Only two knocks: the steering feel was pretty lousy and the gas mileage poor. On the other hand, their interiors are the best in the business.

The five-valve V-8 was awesome. I imagine the RS-4 would be be quite a kick.

I looked hard at the B7 RS4 to replace my DD B5 S4. I love the RS4. At altitude we lose some performance with the NA engine. The fuel mileage in not great. The engine sound is intoxicating.

But after serious consideration, I opted for the more modern SC B8 S4. Good luck with your decision.

And therein lies the biggest problem. People with AWD often have no clue. Of course the car will accelerate. Will it turn or brake with all season tires on snow?

Don't answer, this is a rhetorical question.

I had an RS4 for 3 years, recently replaced by a new S4. I absolutely loved the RS4, and miss it daily. They have proven to be fairly reliable so far, I did not have a single issue with my car in 3 years. I had the DRC shocks replaced under the recall. Brake pads and rotors are mega expensive so make sure you check them.

So... I finally had the pleasure of driving an RS4 for the weekend and I was very impressed with the overall quality of the car. The interior is perfect (despite an ugly seat color combination), the power is amazing, the brakes are fantastic, exhaust note as others have commented is intoxicating but gas mileage is awful.

After thinking about the car over the last few days, I decided to expand my search to include the new S4 and possibly the BMW M5 for comparison. While searching, I stumbled upon an S4 that had the stage 2 PES supercharger kit on it bringing the total claimed hp to 470 and tq to 425. Is anyone familiar with this aftermarket SC kit?

Never heard of PES. Most guys are going with APR or Stasis ecu mods, These bump crank horsepower up to around 400. I have the Stasis ecu and it is a very fast car.
