Not sure if this will help anyone here, but I figured I’d share something I recently went through while hunting for a used performance car.
I was looking at a car out of state — looked super clean in the photos, good service records, seller seemed honest. But something just felt “off” and I didn’t want to fly out just to find surprises. I’ve already had one bad experience years ago where a car looked perfect online but turned out to have overspray, mismatched panels, and a few electrical gremlins when seen in person.
This time I wanted to be smarter.
A friend in the industry recommended getting a third-party automotive inspection, someone who actually knows what they’re looking at — not just a mechanic doing a quick once-over. I ended up trying a service from AMREP since they focus on manufacturing-level quality checks. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much, but the detail they provided shocked me. They caught things I absolutely would have missed: early signs of corrosion under a spot that looked clean, inconsistent torque on a few bolts, and even a small paint defect on the rear quarter.
The seller wasn’t trying to hide anything — they probably didn’t know. But that report saved me a flight, a headache, and potentially thousands down the road.
For anyone considering something similar, this is the service I used: AMREP Inspect Automotive Service not trying to sell anything, just sharing because it helped me avoid a bad buy.
